The car we've purchased was part of a deceased estate, and there were no logbooks, handbooks or any other information, just one key (which we've now have copies of, only took five locksmiths before we found one that had the right blanks!). Today we got it registered, and we look forward to driving it, it's in beautiful, tight condition, cosmetically and mechanically excellent, having covered only 118000 km. A shower cap is on order!
I have searched extensively on this forum, and it has answered many of my preliminary questions. However I would really appreciate any insights into the following:
1. If anyone in Australia knows anything about this particular car, we'd really like to know more about it, its history and even previous owners. We, the new owners, are Sydney based but the car was purchased in Launceston Tasmania.
2. The only mechanical glitch is worn synchro when changing from 2 to 3 and from 3 to 4. Not uncommon, I gather. Can any downunder owners point me to someone (preferably Sydney, but not essential), who can rebuild the gearbox? I'll tackle most mechanical jobs, but gearboxes have always left me befuddled.
3. The sump has been damaged by contact presumably with speedhumps. It doesn't leak and eventually I will take it off and fettle it back into shape. Alternatively, was there any Australian model of Isuzu or Holden (or other brand) that shares the same drive train or sump?
4. As mentioned, we didn't get any remote keys or senders.....but the car does appear to have the infrastructure in place (CDL unit, door actuators) for the alarm / central locking to work. That said, the door lock buttons aren't "talking" to each other at present. All fuses have been checked.....has anyone had any experience getting a system to work from this starting point? Any advice welcomed. Otherwise we'll just install aftermarket immobiliser and remote locking.
There will be many other questions I'm sure, as we get to know this lovely car. But any assistance would be appreciated.
