Jon, I have used POR15 on the underside of my Classic Mini Cooper and it's great stuff, just don't get it on your skin as it will be on for weeks as it stains

Ade, apologies, I wasn't trying to be flippant about fuel on the tyres, in the case you mentioned it sounds like quite a issue and one where fuel was hitting the tyre whilst it is moving, very dangerous indeed. Whereas in the case of an overfill I would suspect you would notice that and would do something to ensure any fuel that came into contact with the tyre was cleaned off before setting off again. :burnout:

I wrote a load of stuff but internet crapped out and I lost it. Basically, POR15 is only good onto metal.

Dinitrol 4147 or Tetraschutz will heal scars, how they are on fuel resistance I don't know but this shouldn't be a concern in the main, I wouldn't speak for POR's resistance to continual coverage in petroleum either.

Pic shows what my car looked like covered in 4147 underneath. I obviously did the metal in POR but the wax coating is like pouring glue all over everything, it will creep and seal and stick to plastic much better.

No problem Rob, I was just a little worried about our fellow Elaners safety.

please don,t treat the matter of getting fuel on the tyres so lightly. On a previous car I owned there was a recall because fuel was leaking from the filler cap onto the tyre and cars were spinning off at roundabouts, It actually happened to me but I was lucky nothing was around.

That would be diesel, would it?

Hi All,
I've taken on board what you guys are saying about fuel spilling on to the tyre, if, once I get the car on the road I encounter a problem with petrol contaminating the tyre, I have the option to extend drain tube down the wheel arch leaving it 20mm or so past the bottom of the arch. For now I want to keep the drain as short as possible, leaving as little chance as I can for further blockages.

I'll need to cut the clear tube nearer the arch. Fix the extension tube in place with Unibond,

then hold the tube in place with pipe clips.
I'll do the extension to the tube if I have a problem with petrol spilling on the tyre.

Does anyone know where the original tube run to??

I can see that mine runs from the fuel filler point into a hole next to the fuel tank area - but I obviously can't see beyond that....

Down to the underside of the car. You should be able to feel for it just behind the passenger's door.

Thanks Rip - but it doesn't go anywhere near the passenger door??

It runs from the fuel drain, towards the centre of the car and into the side of the "moulding" under which the fuel tank sits.
