Anyway, I got this one but I'm pretty sure that there is a 'new improved' version by now (or probably 3 generations onwards, such is the pace of development).

The 'current' version appears to be this one.

I just got the 'basic' version, and extended the memory - they do a 500Gb HD version as well (not SSD drive) which was about £60 more. I was happy with the 32Gb to run the OS, and an extra card for the rest.

According to various YouTube videos it is possible to open it up and extend the RAM, also unsolder the on board drive and attach any other standard sized HDD in place, but I didn't have the necessity for it - it is purely for travel and training delivery purposes.

I bought it after a trip to Abu Dhabi when my power supply failed on my main laptop and left me without the resorces to deliver a Powerpoint (luckilly I had it on pen drive and could borrow a computer at the hotel we were at) - I just wanted something with a good battery life and the ability to get onto wireless networks. The only 'necessities' (program wise) was a browser and means to play .ppt files.

I find that a 32Gb micro SD card will easily hold full Office 2010, Adobe CS4 (for Acrobat Pro, Photoshop and others), all the 'small' programs I use regularly and leaves about 10Gb for storage. A 32Gb nano USB3 thingy completes the package.

It is quite straightforward to mount the SD card (which the computer originally thinks is the 'D' drive) as an extension to the 'C' drive so you don't have to worry about overloading the limited on-board storage.

One of these completes the package.

I started off looking for a S/H Samsung N120 on fleabay (as Angie used to have one and it did the job), but they were not a lot cheaper than a new Acer (but you have to accept the smaller storage) - also they have a removable battery, which would be okay as it would probably need replacing by now, and VGA output - for the total cost of a S/H unit, new battery etc it was a 'no brainer' to get the one I found (at the price it was at that time).

Thanks, Dave, that's pretty much what I need it for. I looked at an MS Surface, but it's a) a cr*p piece of kit and b) insecure - I run an encrypted SSD. So this kind of thing - which might replace the iPad as well - would be great. Time to flex the company credit card, methinks

Without chatting the details about these things on open forum, I can state that mine runs an Ironkey quite happily to keep it all secure, with no noticeable loss of speed, and total security,

The Élan was finally registered to day, er, hang on, that was nearly registered today!

Took the car to the Flower Shop, they offer a Registering Service, sort all the paperwork out with them and they take the car and go and do battle with the Authorities on your behalf for which they charge €50, believe me, this I money well spent.

The guy who took the car, and I'm aware of my own age as I write this, was, shall we say, of somewhat vintage disposition. I'm sure his eyes sparkled when he saw what he was going to drive.

Two hours later I get the call to tell be it is all sorted, only it isn't! Seems they cant find the Emissions Figure and so need to contact Hethel to obtain the same! They will call me in a couple of days as the Tax is based on this figure, however I am legal to drive in the interim. Then they tell me about the puncture to the OSR tyre that they have had repaired - a stray nail apparently!

But the guy smiles and tells me it was a great drive.

7 weeks from arrival to Registration - possibly a record but finally today I became legal!

Tax is based upon CO2 Emissions and the figure provided by Lotus for CO2 is 185g/km and is adjudged by my Cyprus Flowershop friend as being €280pa which on current rates = £196.40

Finally, sorted most of the problems that the car returned from the garage with, these comprised

1. Damaged window switch. (replaced from spare holding)

2. Broken Passenger Door lock Solenoid (replaced from Mr Pinks spare holding)

3. Misaligned Near side headlamp - still to rectify

4. Clanking Window in Drivers door when down position.

I've inspected the rattling window and it seems that the bracket that is glued onto the rear bottom of the glass that fixes to the channel runners is loose, on closer inspection the metal has nigh but rusted away and so requires a replacement bracket; does anyone have such an esoteric item spare, please?

I imagine so! They only joined a decade ago and I guess they toe the line pretty tightly (where there is no pain)
