LOL - No. I wouldn't know how to!

I'm thinking of getting one fitted on my Elan. Might fit one over the Christmas break. I'll post a photo if I do.

They look to me like a perspex sheet with a single fold in it. I'm not sure how that is supposed to fit on as the original cover was a much more complicated fabrication that can be seen on ebay here ...www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOTUS-ELAN-M100-SE-TURBO-RARE-EARLY-TYPE-NUMBER-PLATE-SURROUND-/191741825924?hash=item2ca4b41384

If it helps, I tried to fabricate one and it was very much like the ones for sale ......................needless to say it ended up in the loft as it looked rubbish on the car!

Bottom line - if you want one then get an original!

Quite a coincidence that both the original poster and the ebay item are from Poole. :?
I'd be a little bit wary about the "remanufactured" tag - as you can see from Lotusflasherman's link, the original has a slight curve in it along its length.
So if anyone has just stuck a fold in a flat sheet and expects to sell said item at an inflated price, then they're heading for negative feedback as they won't fit!

Careful - as the listing is with virtual-connections as the buyer, I think John probably bought his Elan within the last 6 months and he is certainly known as he was asking for advice on jack shafts!

Buy some replacement rear number plates too.
The covers trap moisture then the sun bakes the plate & makes it ripple. It is more common to 'upgrade' by changing them for a cover-less plinth.

& if you have read that they are Gatso-proof, then this is bad information.

My SORN'ed SE is often Gatso-proof in the winter as it gets condensation behind it - vulnerable to a Fixed Penalty ticket from a Traffic Cop though. I've heard of people who fitted window tint film or used a Brillo pad to increase opacity in the hope of Gatso-proofing. Just take a flash photo from the angle a Gatso takes it and if you can read your number plate so can Gatso.

Sometimes at the end of the 150 mile journey to work in Lincolnshire I found I was driving an 'Average Speed Camera' and Gatso proof Subaru...

if anyone does feel the need to buy on of these Perspex covers you should also bear in mind that the number plate plinth surround is different on cars with the Perspex cover. So these covers can't be retro fitted without obtaining the correct number plate plinth surround

My early cars had the cover glued to the plinth so the whole unit came off as one so if you get 'the surround' the cover should come with it. Screws fix the plinth, not the cover if I remember correctly. Looks like the one for sale on ebay has come unglued. Once they come slightly unglued you loose the seal and they suffer from moisture and condensation inside, which is good for Gatso proofing, but not Traffic cops, though I was able to talk my way out of a fixed penalty ticket a few times by unscrewing the fixing screws and wiping it whilst moaning about how often I needed to do it , and 'that is how they came out of the factory' etc... but to be honest they are a bloody nuisance, other than making cleaning the rear of the car easier. As Average Speed Cameras and Camera Vans are looking at the front plate and driver these days and Gatso's are much rarer, any Gatso proofing is largely irrelevant. There was a question about whether they were actually legal any more so retro fitting may not be legal ... but some S2 owners get rid of their exhaust cat', so 'each to their own'...

My SE on SORN has one and I have a spare and thought about fitting it the the 'daily use' L reg SE just to make cleaning the rear easier but found the number plate lights were different too.

Illegal to drive with a headlamp out too but since HID became common there are so many cars on one light it's unbelievable! Haven't seen a Traffic Cop in Suffolk for several years either so nobody seems to worry...
