It appears, having just been out for a nose, that it is a 50th B'day pressie for his wife, the first of this iteration on the island. I have to say that they fetch up very well from an design, aesthetic and build quality perspective.

Now it will be duty free and she may be bored with it by the end of my tour, perhaps a bit early to speculate!!!!

plenty of people slag them off without having driven one. I did 30,000 in Excel, 50,000 in Elan, now 7,000 in 2.0 Sport. I'm not biased anyway, will just give an honest opinion of pros & cons if anybody wishes to hear.

There are numerous journalist reviews in Pistonheads, all praise MX5's, and say if you have a negative "hairdressers" attitude then its your loss.

as for the new one pictured above , Soul Red seems to be the only decent colour. All the others are dull blues & silvers for boring Hillarys. Had a 2 hour extended test drive at the launch, soul red 2.0 Sport. Loved it. Afterwards one of Mazdas R&D drivers (ex pro Elise racer) insisted I took the 1.5 for a spin. He insisted it was on a par handling wise with a baby Elan.

I see BBR just released the 190 bhp upgrade for ND, let the mods continue. My NC is going for the 175 bhp in spring before Le mans classic.

That'd make the MX5 on a par with a car developed in 1963-64!!!!!! Even the mainstream manufacturer's have improved their cars since then!

And I have driven both the baby Elan and the M100: love them both to bits, both very different to drive, but the M100 has far superior handling.

But being honest, I have yet to drive an MX5 of any vintage.

its a bit of string and a tent peg which retails at £100, and you thought Lotus was pricey. Mine was missing but fortunately acquired from eBay usa for $1.
