Rev Counter and poor running

so... the list grows

latest is the rev counter seems to have a mind of its own... on full throttle it happily revs and the needles goes all the way round and into the speedometer!! At idle it drops to around 1500rpm... there does not appear to be any rev limiter at all.... I am still getting very uneven running with what feels like fuel cut off after a quick change from 2nd to 3rd...

due to a cut finger I'm yet to investigate the ECU (to see if I have a chipped car) or had chance to perform a waste gate wiggle.. this is a new problem....
anyone near Stamford / Peterborough thats ok with cars?

Otherwise I fear a long and expensive investigation at Kelvedon is coming!?!?

Sounds a bit like your wastegate isn't functioning correctly ? (stuck shut ???)

There is a comprehensive write up on Wiki about sorting this out, including the wastegate wiggle

PS What exhaust is on the car ? I would hazard a guess you might have an aftermarket exhaust (Piper, Peco, Cybox ???) and you may well have a Mountain chip so you might be looking at a re-porting job. Once your finger is better, get in about the ECU and see if you have an ESM chip

Cheers Rambo - yes I think ECU inspection is key....

I have a Piper exhaust put on by previous owner a couple of years ago.....

Any tips for getting the glovebox out to view the ECU????

You don't have to remove the glovebox. Just open it and press in the spring at the centre top to defeat the catch. This is also a quick way to empty the glovebox contents onto the floor.
