Update Compare SJ to PNM

I am looking at the SJ complete system vs the PNM system with extra silencer. Has anyone used the SJ system? The SJ system has added expense for hangers and clamps. The PNM includes them. What I have now is a botched job where they welded on what was on the shelf. Looks bad and way too loud. I am not worried about losing the cat. The car is now historic and will not require any emissions inspection for my state.

Any good or bad news with either one of the systems?

All I can say is that the PNM Cybox system is fantastic for looks, whooomph, bang for bucks and sound. I have one of the basic systems (no extra back box) on my black SE and it's brilliant. Personally I think it's quieter than its precursor (Peco) which I had on my red SE but that's just my gut feeling

I think it's also on a par with the much more expensive Piper system which is on my NMY

Had both systems over the years. Fitted a PNM system to the BRG last year and it's fine, although my local blacksmith had to shorten one of the pipes to make it fit a little more snugly. I've got used to the noise (no extra silencer fitted) and I am very pleased with it.

I would like a quieter exhaust. Right now the previous owner put on what i have to say is a "notice me muffler". I want to hear my music and at times talk to the passenger. It is very hard to do that right now. Don't even think about having a phone call.

I have had the Double SS sports exhaust, bought from SJ's, for eight years. it does pop and bang a little on the over run and can make a bit of a drone on a long run. It is quieter than many of the other after market exhausts. I don't recall any problems when I had it fitted and it still looks OK now

Just fitted thePNM to my S2 and would agree with Rambo.

I have the PNM/Cybox with additional silencer. You can talk and play music without a problem and I think they've got the sound perfect for the car. Don't expect it to be whisper quiet but I don't find it intrusive and I listen to a lot of acoustic music without a problem. The quality is excellent and they've supplied a lot to M100 owners so its tried and tested by owners on the forum. Don't know about the SJ one but I'd go with the PNM/Cybox one; you won't be disappointed.

I have neither (because I preferred the Piper offering!).....

...... that said, as many have posted, the Cybox system is certainly the most common aftermarket SS system for the elan, and has been refined over the years to the one they now supply.

Meanwhile, the Double S system offered by SJ's is less well known (but i did have one of their systems on my old Europa Special and it was excellent), but probably okay for the elan (but I can't really say). I did have a Quicksilver on my old elan and that was equally as good.

Question is, if all those brands use or don't use the Cat, if yes does it need a better sports one, if not, is it good enough for this car? In the end, elan has very specific and limited area underneath so everybody's using the same pattern for the exhaust. Except the quality of matterials, how different they could be?
I think instead of subjective opinions, we should have desibel meter and dynos to compare.
Does anyone have?

I purchased the PNM exhaust with the additional silencers. With over 100 miles since installing it recently I can give some feedback on this system. It is quieter than what I have but I think most would be. I can hear the radio and carry on a conversation with out yelling. There is a boost in power. The turbo kicks in with less pedal effort from what it was. I can say the turbo runs more now than it had been.
In general the quicker turbo response gives more power faster.
