Best MPG on a long run ?

On a past trip to Manchester (and back) in an SE I recall around 35mpg. Car was laden with spouse and entire wardrobe but once at the hotel we used public transport so mileage was purely motorway or dual.

Hammering down the A7 (fast and twisty - 140 miles), M6 (very fast - 310 miles) and A49 (slow, fast, stop start - 200 miles) i achieved a mean MPG over 650 miles of 30.2 MPG in the Black Beast with its new Cybox

Well just got through my first measured tank of gas.

A combination of coastal cruising and stuck in traffic, a few cross country blats, stuck in local traffic and normal congested roads and a few longer country road trips and it did 31 mpg without ever trying to drive to get the best economy. In fact I only realised I could check it because I remember setting the trip milometer to zero.

Pretty pleased with that !!

Well got 31, 30, 33, 32, 36 and 34 out of the first 6 tanks with a real mix of driving so happy with that.

Have they got a fuel light when it gets low ? Just put just over 9 gallons in so the gauge was very low but no light ?

Yes. Light at bottom of Fuel Gauge comes on with 2 gallons left. If you haven't seen it yet and plan to test it by running low I'd have a can of fuel in the boot. Had a Vauxhall Frontera that used to put the light on as it spluttered to a stop and it caught me out the first time as the gauge was still showing 1/4 when it was empty.

I seen to get 22 to 24 out of mine but most journeys are on twisty country lanes so seem to spend a lot of time in 3rd & 4th, seldom 5th. Don't think Everest helps with fuel economy either ..
