Can you please help me identifying this car?





It was first registred in March 1993.

Is it a U.S. car because of the longer front and the side indicators? Can the number plate mounting converted for a long number plate?

Hello,
Yes it is a FED (US) SE car.
One can tell from :
- the longer bumper,
- the SE 16" wheels
- the blinkers on the side
- the rear wing mounting
- the suspension settings (but you need a pair of good eyes)

I think you can swap the plate mounting for a European one, but I am not sure. I would be very surprised if it was not the case.

16" OZ wheels with Goodyear Eagle tyres were used on US cars so suspension was modified as they were slightly heavier than the 15" with Michelin MXXX2 (which had kevlar in place of steel belts) that were used for UK & Europe.
You've probably got the best suspension already because we can't get lightweight MXX2 tyres any more .. and you are running the 16" wheels.

The space between the rear lights is the same so a plinth for a long plate with a light at each end will fit straight in after you remove that plinth.

Don't forget the high brake light under the rear spoiler. And, I believe, the Donald Trump version also had different springs from the UK models that make it look higher at the rear

I have never liked those elongated side repeaters and the high tail light. I guess the Fed. rules make them necessary but they look plain ugly

I read somewhere that Peter Stevens originally design the boot opening as per the Federal cars and disliked the UK / R.O.W quite a lot. Also designed it for bigger wheels than 15" used and wasn't too pleased that they didn't fill the arches properly.

It was a fed rule but they are not repeaters, they are referred to as side marker lights and come on when the lights (side or main) are turned on (or at least mine didn't flash !)

I think so. Ian Doble confirmed it a few years ago at Brands and that the change from the opera glass headlight design to the later mechanism was a Peter Stevens suggestion.

Indeed, Peter Stevens has written a few lines about the M100, and yes he confirms that the FED boot is much closer to his design.

Actually he wrote what we call the FED variant is a later one, but ... it's just the FED variant as we all know.
