O2 sensor not connected.Cause of high engine speed whencold?

Just noticed this while looking under the car.



Looks like it isn't even the right sensor. Shouldn't it be a 3 wire style? Could this be why when whenever I start the engine cold it immediately goes to 2500 rpm or more? Not good with no oil circulating yet. Wouldn't this have turned on a check engine light? And where would the connector on the other end be located?

It's not the O2 sensor (which should be in the top of the downpipe, protruding through a hole in the heatshield)....

..... maybe an Exhaust Gas Temp sensor, which was only ever wired up in cars for the Japanese market (but this is purely a guess as I've not seen anything like it before).

As I understand it, none of the 49 state FED cars have a CAT temp sensor (That is what you are looking at). Only Japanese versions do. I don't think FED California cars have that but I might be wrong.

High idle is usually caused by a vacuum leak or improper ignition timing.

FED Cali cars have no such sensor either. Not on mine anyway.

Ok so it's not an O2 sensor. Don't see anything in the parts manual about it.

So did someone on the assembly line just drop in the wrong converter? Do I have a unicorn?

Sorry, you don't have a unicorn, my CA version has the same none-connected wires. I noticed a couple of days after it last passed the smog test so didn't worry about it..

Every time i see pictures of other owner's undercarriage with rusty, crusty, corroded, oily, dirty mess (please don't take offense), I'm so thankful for my clean and tidy one.

I have the same plug and tied up wire loom.... just hangs there not connected to anything.
