Still an expensive tyre, i got 2 Federal 959RSR last year at £80 each from mytres

I have 4 new federals now as well, so I can compare them with the 2 sets of R1R's i had earlier

Now that i have driven a couple of kilometres I am able to compare both tyres a little better.
The most important difference is the grip from cold. It is worse for the Federal's than the R1R's It looks to me as there is more time needed to get some heat into them as well. The grip from cold with the toyo's is better.
At temperature i don't notice any difference on the dry. In the wet... no experience yet, only with the Toyo's so far. I noticed that at prolonged high loads the R1R's tend to smear a little bit more and faster then the Federal's.

All in all I would prefer the Federals on the track and the Toyo's on the road and the occasional track day.

today a short trip in heavy rain and cold weather (6 deg. Celsius).
It was impossible to get enough heat in the tyres for better grip. Slippery 4 wheel drift(ish) on every roundabout and fast wheelspin on the fronts with every step on the loud pedal!

If I knew this I would have gone for the R1R...

I went for the T1R....there's a reason Phoenix Motorsport use the T1R as the wet tyre for their racing Elises!!!!!!!!!

Do they? A friend of mine said they were very "average" (I am being polite here ... ) on the wet if I am not wrong!?
He did not use them on an Elise though.
