I think we all agree - and as you know I have a Piper exhaust plus chip and the boost creep occurred before the chip was put on.....

it's just a little odd that Mark at Kelvedon wasn't aware of the need for wastegate porting......Top Bloke though

So if I don't currently appear to have boost creep ( haven't taken it up to the redline yet but must have been over 5000+, with a 2 1/4 inch exhaust, KnN filter but nothing else. Should I expect to get boost creep when I put a new Elan chip in ?

Boost creep has nothing to do with what chip you have in the car. It has to do with the physical set-up of inlet and outlet, atmospheric conditions, and how long you have the pedal on the right stuck into the carpet.

Hi guys - I'm stuck....

As you know I've issues with the Turbo suddenly being held back at around 5000rpm 75% of the time under full throttle esp if I've just used 2nd gear and changed up into 3rd under full throttle....initially I thought is was the sticking wastegate actuator.

the guys at Kelvedon Lotus couldn't find anything and Mark there has said he was not aware of this problem in Elan M100s....???

My local independent garage has suggested I need to see a 'specialist' and recommended ITS Turbos in Darlington????

This is obviously a long way away from Peterborough.....

I have done the 'Wastegate Wiggle' which helped a little... can anyone here recommend somewhere where they've actually had their Turbo bored up / ported? Would anyone here be willing to do it for me for a fair fee??

I'm getting frustrated now as sadly its spoiling my use of what is otherwise a lovely little car

If you've had your wastegate bored up / ported please let me know if this made any difference to your ECU cut-outs.... I really need your help now guys

Can you just confirm that you are getting fuel cut off, i.e. the engine light comes on for about 15 seconds and theres no power until it goes out again?

I have only seen the light once.... it doesn't appear otherwise.... and 'rev block' lasts around 5 seconds (which seems an age when trying to accelerate!)

Dear Artiban...

Good drive home, traffic quiet by 6pm!

Just to confirm.... no engine light comes on.... sometimes all is fine and it revs freely... other times and its like Ive hit a rev limiter but at only 4500 rpm..... it can be any gear.... any time.... the only thing constant is its with full or near full throttle

I did try fuel injector cleaner last year which helped a little... maybe I need to buy some more....??

Not looking over all the details on this (out of town at the moment) but you might want to check your throttle cable for play. Mine had a fair bit of play and I couldn't get "true" full throttle with the pedal to the floor. Consequently, the turbo was maxing out around 5 bar if I recall. Tightening the cable solved it.

Full throttle does work 50% of time..... its the other 50% thats a problem

In terms of damp weather - it's usually better warmer weather I think (from memory as its been a while!!)

Warmer weather less dense air. Cold moist air more dense and creates overboost if it is allowed to.

Are you sure that you have gapped the spark plugs correct?

My money is on a combination of two problems; boost creep and sticking wastegate. Porting the wastegate might not solve it but it will be one less factor to consider and freeing up the sticking wastegate with Phil's excellent method (viewtopic.php?f=31&t=25846#p327471) can only help as well.

Additionally if the spark plugs haven't been replaced for a while it can do no harm to put new ones in and just check that each plug is getting a spark to rule out the HT leads.

I think you are going to have to rule out the most obvious before you move onto the obscure. At least you should be able to find a little engineering company or garage that will port the wastegate for you locally. I can't see the need to travel miles to a specialist turbo shop.

Keep us up to date as you begin to rule out various things.

Porting the wastegate is easy getting the turbo off is the hard bit, if you do take the turbo off its worth getting a stainless steel fixing kit to replace the fixing bolts.

I am no mechanic sadly... the hard bit is finding someone near Peterborough who knows what you guys are all talking about and is willing to do the work!!!
