Thanks Rambo ...
I was on the thread back then too ..
Will revive it when my car is back together ...

And that is now a bit further down the road .

The chassis is now separated from the tub . Paint is lifting and rust is setting in round the chassis side of the pedal area ,

The chassis is now being shot blasted rather than being sanded by hand tool methods. This will give an all over better job and pretty much at the same price quoted .

Can anyone think of anything else worth doing now that the tub is separated from the chassis ?

This is no longer a project minor . gulp.

Be good to see some pictures of the rusty zone. Is it visible/accessable without removing the body ?

Went to see my collection of pieces that once formed a car .

CHASSIS .
Chassis is in today for shot blasting . There is corrosion down by the pedal footplate . Which is either where the rain water removal pipe has not worked properly and water has been sandwiched between the tub and the chassis at the angular plate right down to the 4mm lip at the bottom . Or mud and road debris has been trapped between the sandwich point and sat on the lip in the pedal area . This area will need attention when it returns from being shot blasted .

Other corrosion point are at the rear of the power steering filler vessel . Whilst by no means bad it shows an area that paint has lifted . Could be due to poor filling or poor fitting of the 2x pipes underneath .

As for the rest of the chassis it is in pretty good condition . The Dinol treatment inside the tunnel has worded exceptionally well.

TUB.
the thing that has been worrying me for a while has been the condition of the tub. And this was the visit to work out what needed doing on it . With the seats out and the sills off in i went. I was more than please to peel back the carpets inside to reveal absolutely NOTHING needs doing . The tub is in excellent condition . no rust at all . Which is fantastic news .This is possibly due to this being a 3 owner car and the previous owner who had the car for 17 years and always had it garaged ? It rings true as to the condition for sure . What i did notice is that there has already been a reinforcing plate over the top of the rear cut circles just behind the seat belt mounting point. This is quite different to the pictures that has been shown on the "tub" thread , And different to the S2 burn out car tub i had a good look at .
Has someone been in there before ? I don't think so . Why don't i think so ? well the footwell has no rust . The sills where stuck down in the same way that the burn out car was .. As in 2 rows of sikaflex and used the rear retaining clips , The carpet was glued down in the same way as any other car i have seen and the over plate had seam sealer around it just the same as the tub and had what looks like original factory paint all over it . As i could see all the bits i needed to see i was happy . And as i didn't want to rip everything out at the garage i left it alone . I will however when i get it home remove the original sound deadening and put closed cell in And at that point i will investigate what has been done .

OTHER.

The odd things that are written all over our cars . RHD , yep can see that one on the underside of the spare wheel recess . But looking upwards on the ramps with the bumper & radiator off i could see the underside of the clam . The opposite side of where the vin tag is . Mine has in big back pen 615 . Though on the plaque i am 613. I wonder why ?

All in all quite pleased with the box of bits / AKA my car.

Hi Darran ,
unfortunately still a pile of bits so not to much to report .
The chassis is back from being shot blasted and repainted . The rusty plate has been removed completely and replaced with new .
I went up to see it a while back and it looks like just boxes of bits . The tub is up on a ramp the chassis was over the other side of the workshop .
Oh blimey was my first thoughts .

Clemo, while you can check it, look for stress cracks around the area, where the rear engine mount connects to the chassis.

Any ideas on price for radiator ? cant see any specific prices relating to our cars .
Was also looking at this ... seems very reasonable

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOTUS-ELAN-M1 ... Ciid%253A1

Samco hoses when the next group discount is available
A post seals i have some brand new originals in the garage left over from years ago ,
Jamie N header seal to be fitted and ......
yes window seals are now required as we chopped the old ones off to spray all the way up to avoid paint edge ... thinking of using the Honda ones .
