That is something I would try myself, I am not sure of anything. In any case, that probably won't be worse if you try I think.
I am running a mountain chip but I've not got the closed loop conversion.
I can see the advantages but I didn't think it was worth doing as the Elan isn't my daily driver, maybe I should consider it?

Well I don't know, I am not sure it's that useful either.
It may lower your fuel consumption a bit but that would probably not cure your current problem.

I'll check the plugs after a good run and see what they tell me, if they look OK I'll take it from there.
To be honest I like the popping as I'm going down through the gears

it certainly turns the heads

Rich?! I would say it's the other way round, I find them very white!? (although it might be the photo if it's overexposed).
If I am not wrong, it's the ceramic colour that is important, not the steel threaded part.
As far as I know, the ceramic should be light grey-ish/brown-ish.

They are very new plugs so the ceramic is still very clean and I used extra light when taking the picture so things are looking brighter than they really are

Yes, they are cheap injectors upgraded to expensive ones. So the seller won't be able to answer your questions!

what makes you say that?
The correct ones are expensive, so to have modified and sold them at a profit and still less than the correct ones they they must be cheap ones upgraded....to what?
Of course I have some of the correct ones for sale, which you could have bought and I could tell you the answer. But where's the incentive?

Steve,
I have no idea about the injectors you have got - but I am aware that Lotus claimed a (slightly) higher flow-rate than Isuzu, or even the rating on the injector body.... whether this would be an 'upgrade' I don't know......... but if I DID know, I'd tell you, unlike some who aren't being very helpul

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

I have in my hand at the moment a nice new set of Ultra Power MFI 559 injectors if I can help in anyway but they are not for sale.

Simon your assuming I made the choice between your injectors and the ones I got from the states, I didn't
I simply didn't see yours before I bought the injectors mentioned on this thread, so there's my crime.
what with import tax etc it makes more sense to buy yours but hey ho it's done now.
It's a shame you've adopted the attitude you have, I've always tried to help anybody on this forum whether they bought stuff from me or not.
That's not what this forum is about.

The Ultra Power Injectors came from Rock Auto a couple of years ago. They were Delphi obsolescence and were repackaged by MFI into sets.
The ones on eBay are also Delphi injectors, purchased in bulk from the obsolescence warehouse but supposedly flow tested to verify they meet the specification. They were then packaged in sets that were closely matched. THAT is the upgrade. I put a set in the most recent car I picked up as a parts source and they run fine.
I would suggest that you disconnect the battery for a few minutes to let the ECM forget everything it knew and then see if things improve. It looks to be lean to me as well and you might need to look for a vacuum leak behind the intake as well as all the lines feeding the turbo and control valve.
I will probably be chastised, but I won't put in anything other than the ORIGINAL BKPR6E plugs as platinum was never around back in 1989. The plug gap is critical and yours look to be very wide. The correct Gap: 0.8mm (0.031").

I have both kits and a lot of us have the MFI559 injectors as well but I don't see any difference in their performance. Granted, my car just goes up and down the block as I am still putting it back together after an 8 year repaint (among other delays), but we do get it into the turbo to make sure nothing has seized while it has been waiting..

Steve,
I haven't assumed anything - I was framing my answer, to your question questioning my previous answer.
I was also making it clear to anyone reading that I had an interest in selling my injectors.
Ok I'll be more helpful.
You bought a set of injectors that were built to a spec. that was cheaper than ours. Someone rebuilt them to give the "Right" characteristics even though they can't know what the "Right" characteristics are, and they didn't do the OEM testing and they aren't made in an OEM factory (assuming the upgrade is more than just grinding the number off). It's a reasonable guess that the person who rebuilt them made sure they were the right resistance and somewhere near the correct max flow rate, how they behave after that is a guess.
Unless you have the correct design requirements and do the right testing you don't know. That all requires a lot of money and hence our single application injectors are expensive.
second point they are sold in the US and the US cars are closed loop so to a certain extent the ECU corrects the errors - The Isuzu engine management is different to ours!
As an aside and in answer to Dave.
A couple of years ago I had a good elan for sale. Someone local called and came for a test drive - I spent over 2 hours. They then said that the choice was between my car and one at a well renowned Historic lotus specialist that they knew (fair enough). They then decided to buy the other car. A couple of days later I received a phone call saying that they had bought the other car but it was playing up and the specialist couldn't find the problem - could I suggest anything (the cheek of it!). So I spent another hour giving them instructions on how to diagnose duff injectors and offered them a set of new ones - the answer was no thanks because they thought they were too expensive. A couple of days later after they had discovered that the right injector are expensive I received another call wanting to buy them (bloody cheek!). It was someone here and I was very helpful.

Simon: I am not sure why you think the injectors currently on eBay are rebuilt or otherwise modified.
I have seen 4 sets of them now and they are ALL brand new and from the same Delphi liquidation as the Rock Auto units were a while back.
Since they got them in a big pile, they ran them through a testing company to verify they all meet the spec and then tried to package them into groups of 4 that are somewhat closely matched.

Hi John,
Well they are 2.5 Ohms which isn't right to start with. The peak flow might be right but they but that doesn't tell you anything about opening or closing.
Sure they'll fit and they'll work and closed loop will correct some of the errors.
Steve,
I'm feeling exceptionally helpful so I have sent you a PM (which isn't for distribution)

Why do you say 2.5 ohms is wrong? They are LOW impedance and they can be anywhere between 0.5 and 6 per the design pages I have read.
Since they are in parallel, two injectors firing at the same time the effective resistance is really 50% so the ECM is a GM part and it knows all about the GM injectors which these are and how to handle .
