Noisy Dump Valve

Afternoon, All.

My SE has a "whoosh" style dump valve. As I'm not 23 anymore, I wondered if there was a way of making it quieter. I have attached a photo as the valve has a large outlet at the base. Could I add a pipe and a small filter? I can't direct things into the dustbin air filter as there's a K&N.

they were on the after sales list.........check there if you want to put back to standard

That, or buy another dump valve with a silencer in stead of a trumpet

I can't see the outlet very well in that picture.
You don't need to plumb it back into the trash can in order to shut it up. I didn't.
I have the Greddy one which comes with 2 attachments: a noisy trumpet type & one onto which a 1" hose fits. This is about the right length to plumb into the trash can, but instead of doing this I directed it down through the engine bay. This made it significantly quieter & I shut it up further by adding a small air filter to the end. I think you can hear it if you listen really hard but I don't notice it at all.

Ah, now we're talking. The valve has a large bore outlet that points downwards and a small pipe on the top, to which nothing is attached.

Has it got any pipe on it at all?
It should have one which connects to the other side of the throttle valve plate. A pressure difference across the plate (because the throttle is closed) should open the dump valve. I don't understand how else it can work properly.

The blue pipe in my first photo goes from the underside of the valve to the left side of the plenum.

Pipe and air filter fitted. I can now turn my (tweed) cap the correct way around and listen to Radio 4. Very civilised.

It was on the car when I bought it. I'm not sure it's necessary, but it is what it is.

Blimey! the Outlet hose looks a bit too small-bore to me. Surprised it still works...

I'd go for a bigger pipe ...

You could always upgrade to a Lotus Elan N/A.
