Fuel Warning Light Not Working

Evening, All.

Today I ran out of petrol! The fuel warning light didn't illuminate to let me know disaster was imminent.

The warning light does illuminate when the ignition is put on, then goes out after a few seconds. However, it certainly doesn't do its job beyond that...

Does anyone have a fix?

Only a best guess, but sounds like the fuel sender unit is goosed ???

It reads normally and drops as the car consumes fuel.

Ok. Is the module a component I can replace and where is it? Might it be worth replacing the sender, too?

It's inside the instrument panel behind the Fuel & Temp gauges - Part No A100N6001S.
SJSportscars List them @ £2.75 so not too painful ... fitting it will take time though...

Unless your gauge was indicating incorrectly forget about changing the sender f.f.s. That's part of the fuel pump so loads of dosh and "if it ain't broke don't fix it' applies...

The part arrived today. So.... how do I fit it? Can I gain access via the removable panel above the instrument panel?

I reckon it's a case of remove the instrument panel and do it on the kitchen table...

You've got to pull out the printed circuit board towards you after you've removed the fuel & temp gauge module. To do this the clear front needs to come off the instrument cluster and 4 x 7mm nuts on the back removed that connect the gauges to the printed circuit mask AND not lose the washers under the nuts ! Doing it in situ looks nigh impossible to me..

Just happen to have my spare instrument cluster here from helping with the "Revcounter Problem" topic so this is where it is ....

Of course - it's a LOTUS Try getting to the wiper motor on an Eclat, think it's the first thing fitted to the GRP body and the rest of the car is built round it

Actually the M100 instrument panel isn't too bad but helps if you can work with hood down and driver's door open - I found it helps to look down through top of windscreen when reaching inside top access cover.
Speedo cable and 3 multi-pin connectors just unplug from the back and then a few Phillips screws remove the front surround and release the instrument panel. Clear front just unclips and the rest is obvious from the previous photo...

Doesn't sound too bad on a sunny day in the summer with a beer for company. Thanks for your advice.
