Perspex number plate cover

I’ve been told that these covers are illegal as they interfere with the function of traffic cameras (how sad!). Any comments or has there been discussion on the forum? Thanks.

not true.......
if they were part of your car then they are still legal....
the had bit is finding one if youve lost yours
the plinth changed in 1991/2 to one without......

the problem came later after they had been taken on and off a couple of times and not put back correctly
theyd trap moisture and steam up....so you could get pulled up for that......but still not like youve got reflective plates or twisted the number.....

Camera-vans, motorway gantry and average speed cameras are all looking at the front plate - which is why bikers speed so much as they don't have one Also know a couple of Evora owners in London area who run without a front plate too ...

Is that legal to have a car without a front plate in UK? How come they don't get arrested?!
(I heard the Queen is not required to have plates on her cars ... She's very lucky! )

the front plate thing is ded easy........just have the front plate in the passenger footwell and if stopped.... "ive just ripped it off on a speed bump"....usually works......

and that is quite often true.......as Ive taken the front number plate off the Evora at least a dozen times.......and every time on a speed bump.....

Most traffic 'policing' is done by technology and traffic police are 'few and far between' in London & Essex - and the benefit is No Congestion Charge, No Dartford Crossing Charge and No Speeding Tickets, but with my luck I wouldn't risk it though...
Must admit it looks nicer without one ...

I was once told by a traffic cop in a Scamera van that the camera can read both ways

Everyone assumes it is just reading the front plate as you approach the Scamera van. But in fact it can also read your plate from the rear if required so don't give it the right foot until you are well clear

My knowledge of the 'modern' csmera systems is limited - back when i was using them, it was a very basic system with a database which had to be updated daily - now it's all 'real time' connections and high definition.

Next time you come down John, bring your pushbike. You can go faster than 20 mph, oarticularly down the Mound and heading north down Hanover street, Leith walk etc....you don't have any no. plates and you can give 2 fingers to the cameras as you go past. It is extremely satisfying

In France the photo is mostly taken after you pass the camera indeed, probably to catch the bikers too.
The thing is, as they don't know who is/was driving, you can probably argue that you don't remember and all ... So they now decided that even if they don't know who is to blame they will blame the owner ... unless he denounces someone else ...
(At least they were claiming for the money but I think they now remove a few points from your driving licence too — that is a driving licence penalty, I am not sure if that points thing is making any sense for you! (and the translation is probably a bit lame anyway, sorry)).
As for the denunciation thing, maybe you can argue before a judge, but ...

Yes there are also cameras photographing from the front but it tends to be the early cameras.
(According to "someone" with a blue car and orange wheels there is no agreement between France and the UK so far, lucky you!)

Not necessarily so. Usain Bolt was clocked at 28 mph in the 100 metres so I'm sure Superman could run even faster
