TUV in Germany

Hi all

Trying to put my car through German TUV and one of the things they need is a technical paper from Lotus - emissions, power, etc Lotus said yes we can give you that.....that will be 180 euros WTF two pieces of paper on which they print some data they have had for 28 years!!!!

The Scotsman in me says no way - it must be available elsewhere.......... Anyone have this?

Any German, Dutch or Belgian owners got this to register/TUV or whatever their Elan

I am not sure what paper you need (is it a CoC?), you may ask Bibs from thelotusforums if you are a gold full member:

Thanks - I think I need more than that I am afraid - the Tech sheet comes with a load of values and is signed by Lotus. TUV say they need those values.

I don't think Andy Graham or his colleagues have or provide more technical infos than there is on the European Certificate of Conformity (CoC) or its equivalent for older cars?

I have seen a COC there is very little info on it

There are more than a few infos on the CoC for recent cars:

As for the cars which were built before 1996 there may be less infos indeed, but I don't know if they can give it to you ... ? (pollution, etc)
Still, you should ask to Bibs if he can help: he is very helpful and will tell you if he can have the document included with a gold membership subscription.

thanks for that - there is the little matter of the £100 entry fee and then £48 per year plus the £82 for the COC which does not include all the info the TUV to a Forum I know nothing of - LEC is a font of knowledge and help which is invaluable

I may be wrong but I think it's £100 each year, but when I subscribed I told him it was more than likely that I will retrograde to a normal full membership afterwards and he didn't say anything (literally, maybe he just missed it ). It's a bit cheaper for non UK resident, which should be your case since you are in Germany? (£25 I think?). It gives you access to rebates at a few shops (10% at Deroure on parts for instance IIRC), and so on.
The CoC is included in the £100 fee, and Bibs told me he actually pays for them, it's just that he pays a "special price" for professionals.
If you ever decide to go that way, you will receive the CoC directly from Lotus/Andy Graham.
As for the forum, it's a well known forum for any Lotus car but like you I mainly come here when I have a question about the Elan

You may try another route though: in France the DREAL (former DRIRE) is supposed to be able to sell citizens a CoC (or an equivalent) and it's supposed to be cheaper than the official car markers ones. But the French administration being the French administration ... It was so much easier to deal with Bibs

The EU vehicle approval didn't come into effect until 1998 so chances are they are they are expecting more than they are going to get.

The elan was sold in Germany so they should be able to find any information that they need on their computer.

You need to find someone with an elan or search the expat or Oldtimer forums for advice.

I am pretty sure all texas2201 needs is the CoC, I imported two cars to France already and I would be surprised it's not a European thing.
As for asking a German guy for a similar car, I think the whole problem is the TUV can't know for sure it's the same spec car, similar to the ones which were imported to Germany back in the 90s. That is the purpose of the CoC: the car maker states officially that the car with that particular VIN complies with the local law of the time it was officially imported.
For instance, if the German Elan SE variant had a catalyst, I suppose a car without one wouldn't be accepted there. That is just an example, I have no idea if it's the case.
Well at least that's how I understand all that, I may be wrong.

A Belgian friend with an Elan says Germany put a law in place in 1989 saying all new cars needed to have a cat

Sorry - this is different to the one I saw. I have asked TUV if this form would have all the info they require. How do I get in touch with Andy to see if the COC for my car would be available?

Hi Dave thanks for that but on TLF it also says you can have a COC as opposed to that which is a COP - I have left a message on TLF for Andy to see if the COC contains the info I need. How do I get in touch with Will? Is he the guy in Berkshire whi is also on SELOC?

Actually TLF used to provide a CoP as an only choice, but a few month ago "someone" asked Bibs if he could have a CoC instead and Bibs asked Andy Graham and he agreed.
The thing is, I think Andy Graham as an archivist can only provide certificates for old cars like ours (<1996). But that's all what we need anyway — and maybe someone else at Lotus can do the real current CoC (>=1996 cars).
