If you're doing it that way, i'd be tempted to seal the end of the belt webbing with a cigarette lighter flame to prevent fraying (but don't let it get too thick to pass through the slot in the roller) - then when you use the epoxy, put a couple of strips of hardboard either side of the fold and clamp it with a pair of mole grips until it sets.

Ok Will do, I may try it with a soldering iron instead of epoxy, but only have a small for electronics type! I'll just see what works!

Elan passes MOT today :-)

One seat belt, the one that wouldn't come out, was really wet - when dried it worked fine.

The other, the one that wouldn't retract, was actually sort of frayed (in the middle, not on the edge), and so was too thick to slide through the guide on the top of the mechanism. I replaced that one. The new belt wouldn't fit into the old clasp, so I had to replace that as well, which meant taking the seat out!

Not if you charge it and move the car in and out of the garage it's only till May it lowers the risk of it braking

I move my car in and out of the garage on a daily basis and charge it by using it...

"till May" - bloody hell, that's 1/2 a year. Govt Pension info said average male life expectancy in England is 84 so we can all work out how many 1/2 years we have left... and for some, like me, it's not a very big number ...

Reckon all this 'not using it' about as misguided as Trump and his "people are born with a finite amount of energy and therefore shouldn’t exercise if they want to live longer". :smt017

Now that I've finally got it working correctly I intend to use it!

It was about 3 weeks ago that I got it all back together, but the weather has been so bad I haven't had a chance to use it.

After the snow of 10 days ago, mine has just gone to 'winter plumage' of hardtop & snow tyres but was fine without before the snow and would be OK again now...

I'm leaving it like that just to make sure we don't get any more snow.... :lol:

Another year goes by and thankfully a successful MOT for 'Merlot' with NO advisories. That's every year since ownership.

Providing my car is clean, it's not normally a problem. I have occasionally been asked to take it over the inspection pit... but its too low for the safety ramps and the guys just normally laugh and sign it off.

The only re assuring bit is I've normally been in in there several times most years and sure all is in order. Once had a concern about the noise from the larger bore exhaust. But luckily his friend signed it off. It's not that loud, but not standard.

Really lucky that the yearly test here is never much of a problem. That said my Lotus's don't do many miles per year. and are probably over maintained.

No idea if they would ever pass a British MOT.

Yes a nice new MOT and after changing to closed loop emission are now very low CO 0.68 and HC 98 ppm happy days.

Went in today after being off the road since September. Important to get it in before the new regs come in to play at the weekend, I felt. Haven’t seen the certificate yet, so I don’t know about advisories, but the only thing they found wrong was . . . a temperamental horn :roll:

Which my chappie offered to sort for me tomorrow morning - saves me grovelling about underneath.
