OAT = Organic Acid (Additive) Technologgy - usually pink in colour

Bad news for older engines which should have an ethylene glycol (EG) additive - usually blue or green

I run my M100's on EG antifreeze with a strength that protects the engine down to -20/25C. But I do live in Scotland and use them right throughout the year

Thanks you for that, I got a bit worried as I have run my 1935 car with red 4 life coolant for about 15 years to keep temperatures down, as with blue in when venting out the radiator cap it seemed to attack the paint on the bonnet. Found some advice that you shouldn't use it as you say as the aggressive nature of the 4-LIFE coolant is that it WILL seek out any 'weak spots' in the cooling system, but it gives protection from frost expansion damage, and is PH balanced with no acidic impurities or lime scale so I hope it is OK.

Thinking about it though I have put it in a replica car with a V8 I rebuilt, and had real trouble with small leaks on a couple of the hoses, so that may explain that.

I once changed the coolant in my Collapso Red from EG to OAT and found I had minor leaks and weeps, particularly round the thermostat housing, despite having all new Samco hoses and new jubilee clips. I put up with it for a while then flushed with water a couple of times and reverted to my usual -20/25C mix of blue EG.

Result. No leaks
