another m100 hardtop question

Ive asked Simon what happened to the moulds
apparently they were given to someone in Scotland who said they were going to remake them.......

Gareth, any idea what happened to the SPC roll hoop design and moulds for the hood cover panel??

I have just sent simon an email .
I was trying to source him an Elan tub a while back so have had contact with him last year.
I will invite him to Castle Combe where we can ply him with beer and grind him down once again !.

Will let you know my findings

I seem to remember him posting pictures of his Elan after his sister had an off in it and stuffed it backwards at speed destroying most of the back end - and rear lights ! - 'sororicide' came to mind ...
Is he re-building?

Well he has ( as of late last year) still got the wrecked rear end ex RonJ? S2 elan . Yes you are correct in thinking it was a bit crunchy including the lights . Not sure that the car is at the top of his plans but if the parts came his way then he may get it fixed up .

I have always fancied a M100 but am not a fan of soft tops so would only consider one if I could source a hardtop which leads me to ask has any progress been made in locating a supplier for these
I'm hoping that all the people searching for one over the years I have maybe got together and commissioned a manufacturer or a company/individual to modify the MGF one

If you using it all year round there's maybe some justification in owning a hardtop, but if your not your just trying to make it what it ain't.

A bit harsh that. Remember the original Elan was available as either a convertible or a hard top, so you could enjoy it's drive and handling whether you were a fan of soft tops or not.
So why not follow such a precedent with the M100, even though it's not exactly ex factory?

The guy with the hardtop moulds and jigs for the hoops is called Andy. I spoke to him a few times about 4 years ago. So long as he hasn't moved, I'm happy to put someone here in touch with him.

I'm with ksixty on this one. I would have preferred an Elan Coupe to a convertible.

I have sent an email to Simon regarding a few things. As i said i was in email contact with him up until late last year.


Will update when i hear anything.

If the roll hoops or hardtop have a chance of being reproduced I'd definitely be interested, I'd assumed that ship had sailed a long time ago

But not the hardtop thread. I read it back again this morning . It didn't end well . If simon has still got them then it may be a hard sell to try and get him to remake some. Thats probably why he gave the other bits away to Andy .

Though if Andy can be found then maybe he can be convinced to do a remake ?

It is a hell lot of work and does not make you rich producing these goodies. It's more a volunteering job with a little expenses paid. I understand perfectly
I praise myself lucky with my CF Top, but hope somewhere deep down that I will just be as lucky with sourcing hoops, fairing and rear deck
