high miles

Hi, I am a long time lotus owner looking for my first M100.
What's the opinion on high mileage cars. I have found one for sale with service history but with 159,000 miles.
I know it is dependant on what has been done service wise but it is high.

Hi Dobbo - I had my SE since 96.. sold it in 2012 for £2500 with 165,000 miles on it. It was in great condition and I had all the service docs and replace/upgrade receipts. As long as you can see the car has been looked after.. and things have been replaced... high mileage should not be a problem. M

in my mind cars need to be used or they will seize up and parts may well need replacing because they have perished.
So low mileage doesn't necessarily mean better.
Buy a high mileage car and many of the parts may well have been replaced so you get the bonus of that plus a lower price due to the stigma attached to higher mileage cars !.

Be mindful that the expensive bits are usually cosmetic. Hood seals , roofs , which will probably be average on many cars now as they are old.

Be aware that the stuff you can't see is the most important. Inner sills on the tub are to me the most important thing. Whist repairable - a low mileage car that has been outside for most of its life with a slighty leaky roof will could cost you more in the long run that a high mileage car that has been garaged.
