I have been quoted £325 +vat to get my spare turbo refurbed. That carries a years warranty.
I have no concept about how reasonable this is? Does anyone have any thoughts?Other suggestions? Please let me know...

i asked for a full refurbishment, but I'm not sure what that entails, I would have to enquire prior to handing over the cash. There are kits for this turbo on the Internet to replace all the consumable parts. I was looking for it to be made as good as new.

Think I contacted them (Essex Turbos) for my Subaru turbo rebuild but they said 'No can do..' At least they'll be close if you have any 'issues'..

I'm the one that paid £750 for my turbo rebuild through Turbo Technics and that was back in 2010. Unfortunately they couldn't save any of my existing unit and had to build a complete new turbo from new parts. At the time they quoted a similar price (£350ish) but said the recent Elan turbos they had in were all in fairly poor condition and many couldn't be rescued. Don't know if that was the sales pitch but if your guys stand by the quote they've given you and give the guarantee I'd say that was a very good price.

I'd bite their wrist off at the ankle... ..it's reasonable (I paid around this over 10 years ago)
I expect they will fit a new core - obtainable at a low price off the web. Check this is what they are doing..

I just saw the price they're asking for a core now - Blimey!
Having said that there are probably other rhb5 cores out there that would work - I followed the info in the thread posted above and re-cored my turbo over the winter - once the turbo is off it's pretty straight forward.

Ah - I think this is a semantics issue - what you call a cartridge I call a core. I bought the same one you linked to a couple of years ago and it sat in packing grease - came with a nice calendar as well and a little syringe of oil!
I once tried just replacing the bearings and seals in a td-04 turbo - I utterly failed - it was out of balance and lunched itself in short order!
