Any info on this one....

Postby Wryka » Fri 04.05.2018, 14:19

HI all,

I'm on lookout for another Elan and I've browsed through all that seem available at the moment on the usual sites. Anything is considered whether a cheaper 'work needed car' or a 'ready run' just polish car.

I keep getting drawn back to this one

Does anybody know this car. I can see it needs some attention from the pictures to the front bumper and there are a few paint areas that need looking at - plus the two minor holes in the roof where the frame rubs.

Thanks for any help

Good to see that it has the rare ABS option [irony mode = OFF]

But seriously . . . It depends what standard of car you want. As you say, this needs a bit of paint, but nothing too much as far as one can see from the photos. Non-standard wheels. Some wear to the drivers seat, but probably in line with the quoted mileage. No photos of engine compartment or underside, and nothing’s said about service history.

Not much MoT to go - I’d want a year put on by the trader if I bought it. The car has done less than 100 miles in the last 6-7 years; not so good if you think classic cars are better used. And I note that all the MoT failures in the records back to 2005 are due to brake problems: mostly front brakes binding and handbrake issues, so I’d guess a full brake overhaul would be on the cards. Something to check on the road test, at any rate.

Conclusion: worth a look if it’s not too far from you, but try to take someone who knows the cars if you don’t - and be prepared to walk away if you don’t like what you see

Thanks for the reply Jonathan

That's pretty much how I saw it. I have already sent an email asking for more info about service record etc. and also wether the front bumper mis-alignment just needs re-fitting or something more serious.
Depending on answers and possible viewing it looks like it will need some work and a thorough going over. Wheels though non-standard are fine as they would get repainted in a satin black but the mechanicals need to be sorted first.

I also looked at the MOT record and brakes have definitely been high lighted as problematic to say the least so these would need over hauling as a must.

I noticed the driver seat wear too but I this is common on all leather seats that haven't been cared for at this mileage - again some refurb work needed there.

Thanks again I'll keep you updated once I hear back.
