Finally, after a long long time, I've got the red carpet installed. Gone a big mad with the semi-shag pile on the rear bulkhead and the B posts. Gosh, it is hard to get flat carpet to wrap around the curves and bumps on the B posts.... Not very happy with the results, but it will do for now - I expect I'll be redoing those at sometime in the future.

It's been a few years, but glad that you've got it sorted.

(I found that the 'only' way to form the right shape on the 'B' pillars was to heat the carpet with a hair dryer until it was possible to mold it round the plastic - I tried with a hot-air gun, but it started to soften the plastic, so went the 'slower' route. Took a long time, but by applying a bit of spray glue once you are started, it is possible to stick the carpet down on one edge, then heat the next bit and stretch it, allow it to cool and glue it...move on to next 6" etc etc.)

I got them from an eBay seller in the Netherlands, but I've had quite a long look and can't find any trace of them

Forgot to mention that the outrigger on the off-side was in pretty good nick. Some surface rust down by the pedals but brushed off, treatment applied and then closed cell foam installed under the carpets.

To be honest, the seat mounting points/seat belt mount etc look like the car just came out of the factory - I was very very pleasantly surprised.

You may have noticed my moans on this thread about rough running and almost stalling when lifting off. Well we have made partial progress. When Dave P and FredJohn peered knowingly into the engine bay last year at CC, it was suggested that maybe there was a slight vacuum leak through the idle adjusting screw. Honestly, I had a healthy dose of doubt that such a small leak could possibly be the cause and wrote it off (sorry guys). Having failed to find anything else wrong so far, I decided that maybe there was something in what they said so I ‘expertly’ (*cough*) put a piece of rubber over the idle adjustment screw hole and held it in place by winding some wire round it. Off I set with the missus for a day out, and with some trepidation but lo and behold, while it was still running a bit rough and backfiring like a good’un, the stalling problem was gone! It made the driving so much better (read ‘easier’) without having to do the 2 feet on 3 pedals trick (i.e. keep the accelerator down while braking and changing gear). 80 miles later and it was still the same so I am going to call that a success. I’ll make something more elegant to cover the adjustment screw (yes - I have seen the tap washer fix).

Now, about the rough running.....

A small piece of gaffer tape stuck over the hole and trimmed with a pair of nail scissors makes a good temporary repair...... so temporary that it is good for at least 8 years (and counting).

After a West Mids meet-up last year, YHO was running really rough on the way home.

I ordered some new coils and base plate which I have just fitted (9/06/20) and despite having been standing stationary for 8 months, she started first turn of the key. I was somewhat amazed tbh (especially given my all thumbs approach to anything).

Flushed with success, I took her out for a shakedown run but the miss firing was still evident and when I left her on tick-over on the drive once back home, the revs kept dropping down to about half normal (say 400rpm) before reving back up to normal (as if some sort of anti-stall was kicking in?). Is this something anyone else has experienced? If so, what was it????? If you’ve read this thread, you’ll know I’ve replaced quite a few parts and I’m out of ideas (again). It is so frustrating that I am seriously considering getting rid and going to something else instead, which would be a shame but I can’t justify having an unusable vehicle sat on the drive. Ho hum

The drivers side headlight motor gave up the ghost with the usual macaroni disintegration. Happy to say that even with my all-thumbs it is now repaired and working a treat (thanks to Wayne for the repair kit).

I also had a determined fiddle with the combination of CAS, idle screw & CO pot; it seems to be running slightly better. Next stop is to speak to my friendly local garage and see if I can get it on their CO sensor to try and set the mix correctly. At least it seems to be progress in the right direction....

I would guess that the IAC valve isn't doing the right thing or it has lost its marbles or is confused by a vac leak.
