Rear Number Plate Perspex Cover

Hi folks, does anybody have any advice on what to 'specifically' use to stick the perspex cover in place? Just done a bit of a refurb on the cover and attached it with some double sided sticky tape. lasted about 30 mins in the sun, then fell off. the sticky glue on the tape had gone 'wet and runny' in the heat. So, need a reliable sticky tape or something else???? Many thanks in advance, Richard

I suspect it was one of those things the factory used Sikaflex on.

infact as a temp measure I made my A pillar seals with the stuff.......before I got the proper ones fitted

But what if a wee spider gets in there and spins webs !, look at the hassle you will have removing it to clean (or change your number plate),
Na... high quality butyl is the sensible option, held solid, completely waterproof, no mess, and simple to remove and replace when needed,
cheaper than black death Sikaflex as well and the left overs wont set and be money in the bin, very useful stuff for all manner of jobs .

Thanks for the comments chaps, however, it raises another question - if Sikaflex would do the job, would I get away with good old clear silicone? I'd hate to lose the thing, but equally, may wish to remove in the future.

The typical clear silicone sealant is not as adhesive or long lasting as the sikaflex stuff
The sikaflex stuff will stick anything to anything and remain in a solid adhesive from where as the clear bathroom stuff kind of gives up the ghost after a few months ......also the temperature in the number plate space behind the perspex cover gets incredibly hot if left in the sun which would also disintegrate the domestic clear sealant
Sikaflex do this sealant in black or white not sure about clear but I would definitely recommend using this stuff rather than a cheap alternative

- I thought we were talking about re-fixing the clear perspex back onto 'the black box' which is screwed to the body with a few self-tap screws - just open the boot and you'll see them. Use Sikaflex for perspex to box, screws for fixing box to car ..

You will see the number plate lights are behind the perspex so it needs to be removable to replace those, and not just for Jamie N's ''''king wee spiders... I think he'd had a wee dram too many..
