Hi,

Trying to fill in the registration forms for the DVLA, can anyone advise the current Annual Tax figure (what used to be the RFL), please?

Mine started at £175 in 2006 so only a rise of 3.2% pa. vs RPI at 3.0%. You've never had it so good…

My wife bought herself a diesel 1.6 Hyundai on Friday - zero tax

that made me laugh... out loud... literally.

ive considered buying a qhaskay +2 on exactly that same setup... reason was not the tax.. it was more the fuel consumption (i do 40 miles commute everyday) and the fact theres plenty of space inside to take everyone from my office to the pub... or collect wood for the stove.. building materials etc etc

My father-in law had a 1.5 diesel qashqai until he passed away 4 years ago. It was a very capable little engine, but needed frequent gear changes to get the best out of it until up to a cruising speed.

My A4 does 0 to 60 in about 8 seconds and I regularly get 72.6 mpg on a 112 mile round trip to and from work and that’s on the m25 and A12 and is zero tax, but I still have to buy tax each year which is zero??? Pointless idea of buying zero tax!

In years gone past it was a 'visible' way (when there was a physical disc) to see that a car had an MOT and insurance (albeit that it could still be expired MOT and Insurance a day after the disc is issued). But with no visible disc, and MOT/Insurance databases easily accessible, i don't really see the necessity. Okay, it's all computerised, but there must still be a small cost for the administration for zero return.
All I can think of is that there is a 'central' database for DVLA and this is a small parcel of it, which needs to be maintained in case of any future changes.

Many years ago I was written to by DVLA (computerised letter as a result of my ever-vigilant neighbour who objected to me having multiple cars when a bicycle is sooo much more 'dolphin-friendly'), for failing to have or display a current VEL in one of my cars (which had been moved off the drive for 4 days to allow delivery of building materials). The letter stated that the maximum fine was 5 x the annual duty for the vehicle...... but the Triumph qualified for Nil Duty as it was over 25 years of age..... so the fine would be £0.00...... and if I paid it within 14 days that would be the end of the matter

They even acknowledged that I had applied for a disc 8 mouths previously, i had Insurance and MOT, and just needed to display the disc.....

.... it's just a shame that Ms Tree-Hugger hadn't been to Specsavers, otherwise she may have seen that the disc was on the dashboard, having fallen off the screen due to a failure of the not-very-sticky holder .

I tend to agree but the diesel Focus we rented last year when we wandered around the old country did give us ridiculously high mileage 97.5 mpg!

Admittedly we were going slow - my normal behaviour is/was to get off the plane, get the rental car and blast off but the boss insisted that this time we meander and visit lots of towns in between Gatwick and our eventual destination (Dundee) normally done in a day, this time it took us five days.

Sorry for wandering off there, it is a function of getting older.
