What I mean is one has to go to the BCV, which it does, the other elsewhere.

Just found an old picture of my engine bay, the red pipe on my finger is going to the wrong place !

Now I just need to work out what pipe should come off the actuator and where it goes....

there are 2 connections by your finger.

The one that you are touching connects to the black box (oil separator)
The one to its right connects to the Boost control valve
The other connection from the boost control valve goes to the hexagon fitting.

on the back of the air filter bracket metal body with a black rubber ring around the top the centre of which is translucent. it has 2 pipes one goes to the hexagon fitting the other goes to the connection where your finger is.

Great. One pipe goes up to the back of the inlet plenum !!

Think we have very nearly sussed it !!

So what comes off the back of the plenum ??!!

:agree: with Simon P

Confirmed on page 42.01A of the Parts Guide, Items 22, 24 and 25.
The hose you're touching should go to the Oil separator as it's "Downstream" from the take-off for the BCV, any oil mist coming down the hose will get sucked into the turbo and won't get into the "Upstream" BCV hose.

to the right of the air filter are 2 (S2) Vacumm Solenoid Valves they are blue (ive got the right thing this time)
One controls the EGR valve and the other I think controls the secondary throttle.

there are connections to the plenum and throttle body.

Have fun!

Thanks everybody for all your help so far.

Had to retreat to a friends house as my phone has been used as an internet warrior/torch/phone thing for the last few hours.

Time for a cuppa, chill out, recharge, go back to my garage and confirm a few things in an hour or so.

Top work lads !! :D :D

To be fair it wasn't my friend, he also did me a really good price on the work, like he always does. A bit difficult to give him a b*llocking when he helps me out at short notice, does a good price, looks after my car when I'm away for months. I'll know he'll put things right.

Also he would have driven the car home during rush hour traffic so wouldn't have experienced anything unless he was pushing on.

At the end of the day, my car isn't ruined as I thought, just needs some pipes altering

The second blue valve should be the EECS valve = Evaporative Emission Control System - fitted to Catalyst cars only.

At the back of the Plenum behind the Primary throttle should be:
EECS vacuum pipe - should disappear towards the back of the car towards the EECS canister
Heat & Ventilation vacuum pipe - should end up under the N/S Wheel arch, connecting to the vacuum reservoir

Also in that area you'll find vacuum hoses for:
The heater regulating valve
EGR hose from EGR valve to EGR control valve

2 vacuum hoses should come from under the side of the plenum, 1 to each of the EGR and EECS blue valves.

Oh my!!!!

I understand trying to use a phone or even a tablet for this but I don't have androids here. My 29" screen doesn't work like that and if I just "blow up" the photo, there is too much loss of resolution to see anything clearly.
By the time I brighten it up and improve the contrast the photos are reasonably useless. This is a case where bigger IS better. You small screen lovers can still see what you want, but people that are looking to see everything are left out.

I'd like to see someone design anything like a house or shop on a cell phone or tablet. Great for YouTube, my space or selfies, but useless for real engineering.

I totally agree with you John. But I now use Android tablets and smart phones in preference to my desktop

for clarity I think you mean under the throttle body.
Simon, the arrangement for the vsv's is shown clearly in the parts book 43.03a and 44.05b. Having discovered this I will check my car as I can only recall 1 hose going there.

Can anybody take a picture of the back of their plenum please ? S2 if it makes any difference.

Parts diagram only shows one pipe that goes down to the canister but there are 3 connections on there - a bit confused...…..

Right, the main culprits have been changed, I'm left with the vacuum pipes on the back of the inlet manifold.

On my photo I currently have one black pipe fitted. This is pipe 33 on parts diagram 45_05b as I can feel part number 32 down below.
On diagram 46_05b it only shows one pipe coming out of the manifold where I clearly have two. So I don't know if I've connected it to the right pipe although does it matter ?
And what should be connected to the other ?

The other vacuum hose at the back of the Plenum should be for the Heater & Ventilation system - parts 20, 21 and 22 on diagram 18.11a.
Part 22 has a habit of drying out and disintegrating, eventually leading to the hose falling off.

Ok thanks. Part 22 is clearly missing !

I think it's the last piece of the jigsaw. Although I do still have an electrical connector not connected to anything !

A bit further up the thread there's a couple of photos that might help also.
