Who's Crashed Red Elan -- Front End smash

Postby lotusrepair » Thu 15.11.2018, 19:33

I found a red M100 in Tennessee, USA that had a bad front end collision. Anyone recently totaled one in that area?

Looking for info on car.

Copart in Nashville has the car. Minimum bid is over $5,000.00 as set by seller.

I saw the auction days ago and put a bid in, Did not know the reserve was so high. Only a salvage certificate, no title. Parts only.
Was looking at who it belonged to and what they knew about it. Do not know if it even runs.

It is being sold for the owner as best I could find out. The VIN was never in the FED registry, so no idea who owns/owned it.

It kind of looks like the wreck from Vegas that was offered for sale last year but I don't think anyone bought it.

As far as I can see, the car I got from Kentucky last year has a better chance of being repaired and it has lower miles and was less than half the Nashville car minimum.

The Ky car runs well (after injectors and spark plugs) and the gearbox is in good condition. I will never repair it, but it is a good source for hard to find parts for my 20K mustard car (slowly going back together).

I have the green M100 from CO that could be combined with this one to make one good car with left over parts. I have a title for that car.

Sounds like a fun project. My worry is that a car with a crash history isn't going to bring enough to pay back doing all the work to make it right.

What do you lack for that one? I have a few piles of parts laying around plus over 1500 new part numbers on my shelves. I have 2 UK remnants from people who thought they were going to make a fortune reselling M100 parts. I have a new FED body tub, chassis and two floor-pan assemblies, so maybe I can help you repair that one

Where are you in Maryland? I visit Bethesda every 3 months. Send me some pictures and a list of what it would take to rebuild it.

I am an hour north of there. Westminster. The CO car needs top/frame, body panels, rear bumper, seats, + more.

More than anything they all need time.

I have been outbid on the Elan. Someone else really wants it. If the engine ran they would list it as runs. The body pushing out behind the front right wheel shows possible major damage under the car. Add in the fees from the broker, copart and transport costs to the bid for a number growing far larger than the car is worth. I had the fees at $1500+ over the cost of the car.

Did not get the crashed car. Bid was $1900 and then add the fees of about 1k on top of that. Allot of money for an unknown.
Chris

Now if I can get the other TR10 that I bid on.

As for an update to this post I bought the car off of Copart. The damage to the vehicle is not all that bad too be honest and total repairs is projected to be around $5500 including costs of the vehicle. It now has a rebuilt title which is legal to drive on roads according to the state of Tennessee.

If you need anything for it, I will be happy to look at my spares to see if I have extras. Good Luck.

Hey everyone,

That was mine... I drove that car as my daily driver and wrecked it. It was too far gone for me to bring back. Hope it is going well with the rebuild.

Thanks,
