PAS pump, alternator bolt sizes?

Postby madbilly » Mon 03.12.2018, 20:54

Hi all,

I need to order bolts to replace all the ones I've taken out in the timing belt, pulleys and water pump change. I've not taken out the PAS and alternator pivot and adjuster bolts but would still like to replace them. I've not got time before I place my order (to get delivery by the weekend) to take them out and measure them, do any of you happen to know the size of these bolts?

Cheers,
Will :)

the parts manual should have those specified,
you may want to also consider replacing the engine mount bolts with different ones, i have replaced mine with hex head bolts and aluminum spacers on the harder to reach spots. which makes the next timing belt change easier

Unfortunately the parts manual doesn't spec these bolt sizes, which is why I asked.

Where do you put spacers on the engine mounting? On the engine side bolts or the body side bolts?

From memory the Pass pivot bolt is a special high tensile wasted bolt. Unfortunately it is no longer available from Lotus.

You will be lucky to get the alternator pivot bolt out, but it is possible to take the bracket off with it. The bracket is held on with 2 Japanese standard bolts with a 14 mm head. They are shrouded and tight so you might want to add 14mm 8 sided socket to your shopping list assuming you already have 16pt 14mm socket. Plus a selection of sharp drills to drill the old pivot bolt out. And you may have to remove some of the suspension to get the alternator out.

Thanks Simon, I think this has convinced me to leave these bolts where they are for now.
