Help to identify part and purpose

Hi

I am looking for help to identify the ‘terracotta’ coloured part in the bottom left of this pic, mine has perished and has a hole. What is the purpose of the part and what effect will having a hole have?

That is your turbo transducer is your boost gauge working ok ?.

Your profile doesn't say where you're located; I may have one lurking somewhere in storage here in Calfornia. If the boost gauge is working, you could
a) patch the hole and carry on,
b) find a replacement somewhere, or
c) replace it with a mechanical boost gauge as I did, and eliminate the part. Click for picture and process.

The S2 doesn't have the rubber cover and looks like the same part, so you could just ignore it.

I stand to be corrected by someone with more specific knowledge than myself......

...... but (like Simon alludes to), I believe that the rubber sheath is more to keep weather out than actually performing a vital function of operation. As such, i would use a suitable glue to repair any splits and rotate it so that the ugly bit is underneath and hidden from view.

Some of the later boost transducer sheaths/gaitors were grey rather than terracotta/orange

Looks like your terminals could do with a good de-rust or clean up As Alan has mentioned previously, any problems with your boost gauge ?

Thanks all, boost gauge was fine. I have patched...with silicone sealer :s and will rotate to hide, but not before I clean up the terminal.

That’s what I did with mine when a mouse chewed its way through it about 15 years ago!
