Hi new owner looking for advice jut recently got myself an Elan got a few jobs to do before I can start enjoying my car I need to get the timing belt done as the only proof of change I have is 2005 and don't want to risk it and I'm also looking to get a new hood and seals. Not had a chance to have a good look over the car yet I'm sure there will be more as I go on but would like to get the above sorted as soon as I can so I can start to enjoy the car any recommendations would be appreciated
Cheers
Russell

Welcome Russel. Enjoy these much underrated cars.

WeLECome too
We may know the car Russell so, as John says, give us some details (is it Alan's - ab2cv's medina green S2 perchance ?)
For your cambelt change it is much cheaper if you purchase from Rockauto in the USA. Don't forget to order a water pump, tensioner, idler and associated belts ie alternator (with or without air con ?) etc... at the same time especially if your car hasn't been touched since 2005
In fact, the best bit of advice I can give is to get a clued up Scottish member to give your car the once over to give advice on things that you possibly might want to prioritise on. Par (Steven), Jamie (the seal man) and JohnW immediately spring to mind as they are easily the most experienced LEC'rs north of the border

Russell - one question I forgot to ask is ... are you doing the mechanical work yourself or getting a mechanic to do it ?
If its the latter there is a good place in Edinburgh, one in Glasgow and another in West Linton

Hi guys the car came from Wales got to be honest not had much of a look around it left late on Thursday night drove through the night picked it up and straight home put it in the garage and rushed to get the trailer back to the shop. Not had any time to pop out and look at it yet hopefully get some time soon. Looking on here jamie n I could definitely do with speaking to you about a seal or 2.
Only pictures I have so far from the seller

Looks nice
You might have some steering rack issues in the near future (quite a few advisories in its MOT history over the past few years) so might be advisable to get this checked out before your next MOT in May
