Current thinking on engine oil to use please

Good afternoon all, my S1 Turbo has covered approx 75,000 miles, I’ve been using Mobil One 10w60 and tend to use the car infrequently, but about to change the oil and use the car as intended now that the better weather is here. Am I correct in assuming that this grade is ok, the reason for asking is that I use Castrol TFT 5w40 in my Audi RS6 and wondered if a 5w would be better for circulation on initial start up?

Lotus lists 10/30 as the weight of choice but shows others up to 5/50. Many modern oils do not have the same additives that were used when this car was produced. Many manufactures have removed zinc from their oils. The debate is if this car, like many older cars still need zinc. I choose to use oils that have zinc in my older cars. Zinc and other additives have been removed for modern cars to not interfere with emissions.

Know what is and is not in the oil that you want to use. For me I have two choices for oils that still have additives like zinc... Amsoil Z-Rod and Valvoline Racing. One synthetic and one conventional.

Today has been my 'annual oil buying day' - which involces searching out the current thinking for oils for all of our vehicles, and then finding it for the best price I can....

I won't bore you with the oils I get for the VW, Vauxhall and Triumphs (surprisingly, all 3 get the OE manufactured oils in their various grades, at whatever price I can get them for!)

But for the Elan, I have to consider age of car, mileage (130K), use, oil pressure, temperatures etc etc.....

..... I came down to a choice between Mobil1 and Fuchs Titan Supersyn - both in 10w60 grade.

I looked at Millers and Fuchs Titan Pro as well (10w50 & 10w60), but decided that due to age and use of vehicle I don't need the 'extra' additives or whatever that they provide, and oil designed for an 'older' engine would be better. (and cheaper!).

As such, I have ordered the Supersyn from Opie Oils (cheaper on ebay than on their main website unless you qualify for free delivery) at ~£32 for 5l

I have just put 5w 30 in the Blue Car but I prefer 10w 40 or 30 as 5W makes the lifters slightly noisier. Fully synthetic.

With a service interval of 3k miles it doesn't have a chance to use up the additives. It comes out nearly clean.

I have used Petronas 5W 40 fully synthetic for many a year on both my SE's without any issues.

PS If its good enough for Lewis Hamilton, it's good enough for me
