What chip is in my car?

Postby Hoppo » Sat 27.04.2019, 17:15

While looking at a few bits the other day I noticed that someone has written "chip" on the ECU case.

Is there any way to tell what's in there?

If you have elanscan, you can plug it in and it will tell you......

.... failing that, you will need to remove the ecu from it's bracket (2 small bolts and the wiring plugs). There is a sticker that is fitted at the factory to prevent 'tampering' - if this is still intact, then the unit has never been opened, so a chip is unlikely. However, if it has been peeled back or cut, then you can easily open the case. If the chip is a 'mountain' chip, then it will be written on it what it is, if it's a 'superchips' one, it will be printed on the chip.

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

The tamper proof label has been off. Any chance of anyone has a pic of what I'm looking at?

Lots of info on the Elanchips website. Follow the link at the top of the page.
Specifically, you’ll find photos here:
