Dave (Clemo) and other buyers
As of tomorrow, I'll start making enquiries into packaging/shipping costs:
- 1. packing and dispatching a parcel (1 pair) by post within France (3 or 4 members)
- 2. packing and dispatching a parcel (1 pair) by post to the UK (probably the most expensive option)
- 3. packing and dispatching a parcel (1 pair) by post to the USA and elsewhere - In this respect, BCN (John) will be helping me with parcel dimensions and shipment costs/formalities.
- 4. dispatching a parcel containing the covers for all UK members (who represent the majority of demands) by courier from France to a fixed destination in the UK for subsequent dispatch to the individual members (LEC postal service?).

I'll then be in a position to quote a definite figure for the packaging and transport. Up until now my main concern has been trying to obtain enough buyers (15). I will now concentrate on packaging and shipment.

N.B. Prior to placing the order (if we manage to get to 15 pairs) and to requesting any downpayment, I will of course stipulate that I receive, for quality inspection, a pair of pre-production covers (RH/LH). This is only natural.

Don't hesitate should you have any other queries.

Hello
Renaud (Miller) Many thanks indeed for your firm order. As you will have seen, I'll now have to work out the cost of packaging and postage (or courier - DPD or the like) and will revert back ASAP.
You're of course welcome to pick up the parts - when available - since you're only an hours drive away.
Don Have noted your intention to withdraw which I fully respect. BCN (John) has confirmed your remarks re shipment costs to America which are prohibitive unless one truly requires these lenses. Thanks anyway.

Thanks but not quite. I make it 13 pairs so far plus 2 individual units (RH side), but we're getting there, slow but sure. I'll need to think about a group buy closing date soon, but would like to wait for Castle Combe to see if there are any more takers.
Trust you'll enjoy CC. Should be a great weekend from what I can gather. Pity I can't make it but I really enjoyed Hethel 70th.

Dave (Clemo)
Thanks for your firm order for 1 pair (perhaps 2 pairs subject to P&P). National holiday here today but I am attending to packaging/posting/shipment. Price confirmation awaited Thursday/Friday. Have been quoted 38 Euros for shipment (courier) of 15/20 pairs to me here in France (not sure yet if this includes the packaging) for subsequent redispatch - method to be found and agreed upon, especially for the UK.
Have been quoted between 56 and 67 USD (50 to 60 Euros) for shipment to the USA. Other countries to be confirmed.
BCN has been helping with packaging materials (box dimensions, weights, etc.) - as usual invaluable aid.

When P&P properly defined and everyone in agreement, I'll close the group purchase list and start requesting downpayment, which, when received, will enable the supplier/manufacturer to launch production.

Will revert back asap.

FrenchElans - Gwigzee
Many thanks for your firm order which brings us up to the requested 15 pair minimum + 2 RH single sides + possibily 1 other pair (Clemo?).
Of course - no problem at all with picking the covers up from me - naturally when finally delivered to me - whereabouts are you located?
As stated above, awaiting confirmation of shipping costs/postal charges + packaging costs. Will revert back asap.

Big question - addressed to all involved. Do we wait until Castle Combe is over or do we proceed as of now ? Your views would be appreciated.

Jim (Muley) Hi
Please note this is a final list. Prices already posted and confirmed. The cost per pair is 480 Euros, VAT included, postage/shipping & packaging in addition (unless a better solution is found for the UK). If cost is acceptable to you, please confirm by making a firm commitment.
I'll be ordering a LH side myself in addition to a pair, so no need for you to do it. Your gesture apprciated nontheless.
Await your reply.

Not a problem for me either way, so long as it’s all done and dusted before we leave europe, to avoid any possible transport/customs problems.

Steve Hi
Thank you.
Have yet to get firm confirmation for dispatch/packaging costs. Since you're the other side of the pond, do you happen to know whether there is/are import duty or import taxes? Don Sladek considered the shipment cost prohibitive and withdrew. BCN appeared to confirm this. As I said earlier today, my supplier's transporter quoted between 56 and 67 USD for delivery to America - to be confirmed. If shipment cost turns out to be prohibitive you may, of course, back out prior to paying any downpayment.
Keep an eye on the thread for developments.

Hello John
Considering all the Brexit-related uncertainties, it might well be advisable to conclude before 2021 or is it 2020???? or never!!!!
Greetings from the Huntly lad.

David,

There is no VAT but there will be import taxes and brokerage fees for processing those fees.

Depending on how they are classified, the tax could be as much as 10% of the declared price.

It is possible the supplier will use a shipping method that covers all clearance fees and taxes in their shipping price, but I have been charged again several times because the paperwork wasn't processed correctly. This is NOT common, but has happened.

Sending a batch to one location for re-distribution may not be cost effective as the box size and weight for one pair of covers from east coast to west cost is around $60.00, but depending on the cost from France to the US, it might still be less expensive than shipping one pair at a time.

Volume does help lower the costs.
