Just a curiosity - does anyone know what the writing/numbers mean.
Finally got her on the hoist this weekend, looks pretty clean to me.

I will let other answer for the "Federal" meaning as I have a good idea, however don't want to get it wrong.
That said, did you had the chance to check if the front rubber exhaust support have been replaced or it's still missing ? Last time I saw the car it was missing.

Where in relation to the Cat would that be? When I was under the car I poked and prodded and pulled to see if anything would fall off etc but all seemed secure - the muffler has developed a hole though so that will need to be replaced.
I want to make sure I replace it with the proper one as I have read(?) that putting on a 'performance' muffler will upset the V5 - not that this car needs more performance, delightful driver!

My best guess for the writing is that it is a Federal bodyshell, pushed onto the production line on 19th April 1991 and assembled by someone with the initials B.S.
Dave
Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

British Standard and not Barry Stokes
ie it conforms to a particular British Standard, sub section 19.4.9 but is for the US market ???
Just an intuitive guess

Hmm, based on those replies I think I shall have to burn off that offending phrase - should I keep a fire extinguisher nearby - just in case?

19.4.91 35 maybe? (the 35th built?) Although I agree it looks more like a B than 13

I'll get it in the shop to review that and repair as needed - looks like it needs a new muffler anyway so...
