Sudden engine stuttering/misfire

Postby BertBeck » Sat 25.05.2019, 00:51

Alrite guys,
Ive had the car 4 years and no engine problems atall, but tonight driving home and engine started stuttering like it was running out of fuel,
Stopped at the garage and filled up just incase, drove off then started stuttering again,
Engine management light flicking on and off and clicking noise coming from glove box area in sync, presumably a relay.
Managed to limp home, cut out a couple of times but restarted again.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance :(

Try the paperclip test first. See wikilec on top of this page for that.

:agree:
Then tell us the codes.

It shouldn’t be a big problem to fix. The problem will be identifying the culprit. It sounds likely to be ignition related, so:
plugs, plug leads, coil pack(s), Hall effect sensor.

Did you do anything to the car recently?

Strange. I bridged the white and black wires and turned ignition on and nothing.
Just usual dash lights come on. No flashing from the engine mgt light, didnt even illuminate.
Inserted paperclip again to make sure its making a good contact, still nothing.
So pushed plug back on, started car up took it round the block and its now running fine, for now at least
