Rear Wheel Bearings

Hope i posted this in the correct place!

I have a new set of rear wheel bearings, and need someone to fit them !
Anyone interested?
And how much should a job like this cost?

If you look at Toby's video on youtube the m100 restoration series, rebuilding the rear suspension video, he does do a bearing change. so it will give you an idea whats involved.

Hi Mr Sweep

I’m in North Wiltshire, on the Gloucestershire border. If you don’t want to do it yourself, I have a local chap who could do this, but he’s pretty booked up - good folks are in demand! Otherwise it’s the usual suspects: Sportomotive in Bournemouth, SJs in Crediton, or South West Lotus in Lifton are all well known and recommended.

Is the car drivable at present?

Surely there must be someone not too far that can help this guy out and prevent him being robbed by an unscrupuluos garage ?, its a simple job. If you were near
me Mr Sweep i would do it for free. It might even be the case that only your hub nut needs tightening, but of course if you have new bearings fire them in anyway.

Any old garage should be able to do the job. It's the same set up as many bog-standard cars.

Thanks for advice & pointers, i watch the video, and i'm now thinking i will have a go myself !!
Maybe upgrade the rear disc and calipers at the same time.

Hi,

I'm up in Chippenham and have to replace my rear NS Bearing. I've got the parts (from SJs) but I've been putting it off for a while (chiefly cus I haven't had simple access to the manuals!).

Looking at video doesn't fill me with joy as everytime I do a 'simple' job it turns into a more arduous task than expected but if you want some help/support I'm quite happy to drive down at your convenience.

Nowadays there is no plural, it's just one Bolleck left!

Fairly straight forward to replace bearings if you have the right tools. I do admire Toby for making the vid's but sometimes he doesn't do things the easy way. Put the bearing race in the freezer as he says but also put the hub/disc in the oven and then you won't need grease to tap it in. I would not want grease in anything that should be an interference fit. (If you bought Jeemy's hubs you need to put them in the freezer and the race in the oven.. ) At the start of the video he's pulling apart the suspension and has a problem with a nylock nut on the end of the rusty thread.. I always use a rotary wire brush to de-rust exposed threads as much as I can and then run a die down to the nut to ensure the thread form is back to what is should be.. takes a couple of minutes but saves hours of aggravation when the nut just spins off.

I can give you a hand, but not sure when as I'm pretty busy at the moment!

But as already mentioned, it's not a difficult job at all.

In the video he uses a small flat piece of steel to drive the new race into the hub, I use a socket as that's easier to find and also will be in contact with all of the race edge.

When I did mine recently I got the end float correctly set, but after a hundred miles or so it felt really loose and I had to re-set it. Never had to do that before when I've done this type of bearing! Might be an idea to keep an eye on it once done.
