Marcos Yes, Evora No!

Postby Bern » Fri 12.07.2019, 14:17

Driving along the A46 yesterday I got a big cheery wave from a guy in a Marcos.

And then a few miles later I was totally blanked by an Evora driver!

Are you implying that Evora drivers are a bunch of merchant bankers by any chance? :D , was probably just jealous you had a much
nicer looking Lotus for a lot less cash. ;-)

Haha, that's one way of looking at it!

The other that the Elan is accepted by the Classic car fraternity, and that some Evora drivers care not for Lotus history - probably had no idea that it was a Lotus!

Watch it! I upset a few Evora drivers when I said they don’t wave!
I have since had a wave from one (in fact he waved first) so it is Elise drivers (or to be fair, half of them) that I will target next!
Last month I waved to an Elise and got no response, not half a mile down the road I get a flash from an MGF driver.

MX5 drivers always seem to be the ones who have a grudge against an Elan coming towards them, they always appear to have suddenly
seen something away off to the left or something requires attention on the passenger seat, I can understand how they feel though,
it must be awful having to face the stupendously prettier car that they should have bought instead of this common as muck Mazda
that has been rusting heavily from the day it left the factory. :-D

That is so true, I always like to smile at MX5 drivers as they desperately try to ignore me! And why do they always have the roof up?

Yes, I'd say it's 50/50 with Elise drivers, but it's very rare that I see another Lotus of any type around here.

MX-5 drivers.. it's nothing personal. They totally blank each other in my experience. Not that I care ~ I've got the best British sports car ever built as well!

Hi Rambo
I had a little app called SimpleResize which even I could use to modify pictures to the forum but for some reason it’s no longer compatible with the latest iPad update so I’ve got to find another one I can understand :D

Actually I was acknowledged by an MX5 driver last week. I was following my friend in his ‘65 Elan and the MX5 driver smiled and waved to us both.

I use an app for the iPad called ImageSize which has worked reliably so far

Why would they think your smile is aimed at them? They are probably just looking at the road ahead anyway. Surely that is a good thing?
I doubt many MX-5 drivers acknowledge each other like Lotus drivers. There are too many of them to make a close community. They are simply an affordable, 2-seater soft top & I see nothing wrong with that.

I don't feel MX-5 drivers always have their roof up at all. Quite the reverse actually: they seem to put the roof down at the first reasonable opportunity.
The worst in this respect are BMW 3 series drivers: when the sun comes out in January, they seem desperate to put the roof down & freeze themselves but, on a warm dry summer day when they can enjoy it, it goes up again because it is 'too noisy' or 'too windy'. It makes me wonder why they bought a car with a chassis compromised by the soft top they don't use!
Having said that, long before I got my Elan, I went from London to Poole on a hot day with a friend. He insisted on taking his 3 series convertible with the roof down because he bought it for days just like that, so not all 3 series drivers are the same either.

I don't have any problems with the MX5, I've had 2 (an NB - great car, and an NC - lacking the character and fun of the NB). Unless it was raining really heavily the roof was always down.

But if I see an MX5, especially a later NB or NC the roof is usually up! NAs usually have the roof down, perhaps because most are now in enthusiasts hands?
