HT leads

I want to change the HT leads in my 1991 SE turbo - old ones look as though they are the original leads and one looks like it has been rubbing - car is inclined to stutter with heavy acceleration so worth changing the leads to see if this resolves the issue - it did have new plugs fitted at it's last service in April this year so they should be okay although for the cost of a set of plugs might be worth replacing them whilst checking the gap is correct.

looking on internet prices vary from £30 to £90 for a set - I would prefer to have standard ones as thicker ones might prove difficult to go through all the clips - where can I buy a set and what spark plus should I buy ?

I believe Kingsborne & Magnecor both do leads. 8mm ones can be made to fit, but 7mm ones will fit properly.

If the plugs were only fitted 4 months ago, it seems a waste to replace them, but if you really want to, then there is information on the wiki

Handbook says Pluga are NGK BKR6E or alternative BKR7. BK6RE were available in Halfords in Slough when I needed some so I presume other branches.

I went with the 8mm Kingsborne leads back in 2010, I don't seem to remember having a problem installing them, but maybe better to go with Rips advice on the 7mm dia leads.
Still working well today, for what I paid for them, I've been very happy with them. I will be even happier if I get another 4 years out of them.

I don't have any receipts for the plugs, which I bought locally at the same time. I seem to think that they were Platinum plugs for a VW Beetle.
I think I asked for NGK BKR6E and this was cross referenced to them. Must pull one out and check the numbers on it.

Thanks for all suggestions - good to know you can still get them - spoke previously to a local auto electrical firm here on the IOW - response was " no mate - can't get them anymore "

Im pretty sure I have a new set of Magnecor ones...........
I bought spares....lol.........let me know if you need them (provided I can find them..... )

Magnecor does not longer produce these.
Somehow the connector on the plug always baked to the plug.
When you want to take them off again, no matter what you do, you will end up with the metallic windings being extracted from the cover

I tried to find a solution together with Magnecor, and they where very very helpful in solving this matter.
I ruined 4 sets in total, no matter the tweaks before mounting, lubrication, or removal techniques we discussed together
They also recieved a lot of complaints from other M100 users?

However, the end conclusion was that they no longer supply them for the M100.
Perhaps this is old news now and they found a solution for it anyway...

That said: I never had any problem with my own set!

This could explain why my car came with a spare set of 3 Magnecor leads!

Fitted new leads and plugs this morning ( or rather my retired mechanic neighbour did ) went also with new spark plugs as they were only £11 - leads were £40 delivered ( next day service )

Wow what a difference no hesitation whatsoever when stamping down on accelerator ( wouldn't drive like this normally but was just testing ) made me smile !

Cambiare Ignition Leads OEF751 - got from Ignition Car Parts - really helpful company - wasn't in stock but got them the next day and posted to me - ordered on Wednesday - arrived today exact fit included the clips that separate the leads - £40 inclusive of £5 postage .

Standard plugs NGK BKR6E purchased locally for £10.30.

I reckon the old leads were original - were red and perished in places - the new plugs were already 31 thou gap.

The difference was incredible
