starting procedure

Postby gov » Thu 15.08.2019, 17:03

since replacing plugs and leads car accelerates smoothly without hesitation - today for some reason on starting off it spluttered for the first initial few seconds while driving then ran perfectly - read somewhere that you are supposed to wait when turning the key until all the usual noises of pump setting etc have activated before starting the car
- is there some truth in this ?

Yes, I always do it. Turn the ignition on, listen for the electric pump priming (it ticks just behind you), when it stops, start the car.

Rarely fails me. :D :D

Lots of truth in it Tony. You definitely need the fuel pump primed before you start her up

Didn't you always do this when you last owned her ?

PS I turn the ignition on and in the time it takes to get the seat belt on the fuel pump noise has stopped and it's ready to go :burnout:

Hi Tony
Rambo is correct, switch the ignition on and wait until the pump stops priming then start her up :D

Yes, and the temperature and atmospheric pressure sensors have had time to tell the ECU what the fueling should be for the ambient conditions. If you start it quickly it uses the last settings, OK if you've just stopped at the shops but if you came home with a hot engine on a warm summer evening it needs time to reset for a cold morning, cold engine. Igntion on, seatbelt on, turn key, procedure gives it enough time.
