Fuel pump does not get electricity when ignition is on

Postby Lotussi » Mon 30.09.2019, 10:52

Hi there,
I just purchased an Elan from 1991 with the engine out, from a guy who passed away, RIP
so I can no ask the previous owner any questions...
We are not getting any electricity on the fuel pump when the ignition is switched on
Does the car have an on board immobilizer?
How do we go about this with no remote control for this?
Behind the drivers s eat LHD are is space for 3 relays but only 1 is in
Anyone knows what the other 2 are for??
Thanks

Welcome Lotussi,

On LHD cars there's an Inertia switch in the speaker pod behind the driver's seat. Labelled A in the diagram below.
The previous owner would probably have pulled it up in order to relieve fuel pressure in preparation to take the engine out.
Hopefully you just have to push the button down to have the fuel pump working again.

It may be the immobiliser. On my S2, the fuel pump is one of the circuits disabled when the immobiliser is set.

There is no constant power feed for the fuel pump when the key is in the ignition position. The pump is primed and then doesn't run again until the ECM knows it is running and the ICM turns it on again.

When you first turn the key you should hear a quick "BUZZ" of the pump and then nothing until the engine is running.
