what are these little tabs?

Hi All,

In the attempt to assemble an Elan engine from a box full of parts....
We stumble upon a lot of mysteries
Can any of you Elan experts help with identifying what these parts are?
And what is the purpose of them?

1 Could that be the spedo drive gear (can't get my bearings)

2 Do you mean the two spigots - they are for the vacumm hoses for the heating controls - there is a clear diagram of the connections in the worshop manual

1. I think so as well. There should be a flat piece of metal sheet that goes into the groove of the speedo cable. The treaded hole is for the bolt that goes through the plate, holding everything together.
When you want to take the speedo gear out, loosen the bolt just a little, keep the plate attached and swing to the side, out of the groove.

We have manage to identify a lot of things
and got the engine to run- yeah

but there are still some loose ends...
from my previous post of photos,
what was identified as the speedo drive gear,
there are some space for screws/ bolts
does anyone have a photo of that plate that goes here please??

In the repairs section (above) there is a page on "transaxle oil change" the illustration is good.
