We now have quite a few players that can play in multiple positions:
Hayden can play midfield as well as defence.
Ritchie can play fullback/wingback/winger and can also slot in at number 10.
DeYedlin likewise, but more of an attacking fullback.
Andy Carroll can play in a wheelchair and on crutches.

Had a conversation with Dave T earlier today. Amongst many topics discussed he had my Spurs to beat his Everton 2-1 today. Sadly the 1-1 draw was completely overshadowed by the horrific injury to Andre Gomes.

My daughter WhatsApped me to say his ankle ended up 90 degrees to his knee and she was clearly upset by what she had seen.

In my own way to offer her some comfort I reminded her that if my ankle had not been in a similar position to his then I wouldn't have met her mother some 29 or so years ago.

You'll get over it one day Andre, not sure I will though.......

Did something similar to my left ankle playing 5 a side football on 6th August. After a collision I was left sitting on my bum, legs flat along the ground, right foot up in the air (normal), left foot flat on the ground 90° from it's normal position ... I just sat there and shouted "Guys, I think I need an ambulance.." A few guys averted their eyes and found somewhere to lean but I thought it better not to writhe around rolling my eyes ... more comfortable just to sit there ..

Was 9:30 pm on a Tuesday but Suffolk Ambulance said " Busy night and not a priority so probably be about 6 & 1/2 hours before we get there".. so persuaded some team mates to get me into the back of a guy's Volvo estate and take me to hospital. Not the most comfortable experience !

I now have a titanium plate down the outside of my left shin/ankle that will not be removed. Three months on, my left foot and ankle are still swollen and bruised such that I need a bigger shoe and flexing the ankle gives me an 'electric shock' on top of my instep which I guess is a trapped nerve issue, but I'm getting used to it..

Glad it was my left foot ... the M100 clutch I can operate normally but the Evora is too much for flexing at the ankle so I move the seat forward more and use my heel on the pedal and flax at the knee.. - where there's a will, there is a way. I'll get there soon.

I'm hoping by January I will be able to get into my ski boots, where my ankle will be well supported but definitely retired from football now.. - from my experience I think it will be a very long time before Andre Gomes returns to playing, if he ever does...

Also reckon a red card was idiotic because it was just a trip that deserved yellow and the resulting collision with the other Spurs player was just an unfortunate consequence of the game of football ... but it puts Son in the frame for all the social media hate stuff.

sorry to hear about your ankle, but I think you definately qualify to be referred to as a "retired old fart"

My right one has been a bit week and susceptible to injury for many years (since getting run over by a burglar fleeing the scene).... or maybe even before that when i tripped over a kerb on a pub crawl. Had a few sprains and minor breaks over the years (playing footy, mainly - but then broke it properly whilst refereeing a kids 5-a-side game. I jumped over the ball, which bounced off the wall to my right, and I landed on it. Very amusing for the kids (including one of mine, and one of Angies). That was the very last time I said that i was too old for footy (I went from playing, to coaching, to officiating to watching the odd game on the telly).

So, having to do something far safer with my time, what could possibly go wrong with motorbiking round Vietnam with Clemo.......
