I have been trying to find the torque sting for the front hub nuts.
I can find the rear (25nm) but are the fronts the same?
Thanks

Hi Martin,
No, the rear hubs use tapered bearings and you have to tighten them in a specific fashion to set the bearing pre-load.
You NEVER just tighten those to a specified torque.
225 to 235 NM or 166 to 173 LBS/Ft

Information like this is available in the Service Manual which can be found by clicking on my LOTUS MANUALS link in my signature below.

+1 If you do you won't get very far! There is a service bulletin that supersedes the manual as too many people didn't get far after having them adjusted. They should just have the smallest amount of play when cold.

Does anyone else have to explain this to the MOT tester whenever they go to a different garage? - I have had to take my manual print-out to 3 different testing stations now to get them to finally agree that they aint "too loose, in my opinion, mate!"
Only once have I had to go as far as aking for a VT17 from the garage.... it was surprising how quickly the bloke went to get his boss when I asked for one of those (but he still listed it as an 'advisory' on the ticket

)
Dave
Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it
...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Thanks guys,
I had a look at the service manual but just couldn't see anything about the torque for the front - I'm not doing the rear.
All I could find was in the text where it said 'tighten to the required torque' , another bit where it said 'refer to section DD 6' and nothing in the technical data at all!
I'll now try and do up to the settings given by BCN - no wonder I had to get an impact wrench to shift them.
Thanks again
