Solder, Araldite, silicone sealant and heatshrink will soon fix that.

This is just about replacing the the mast !
I ordered one of these more or less out of curiosity. The thread on the OE Bosch is finer than the M4 on this but with careful re tapping the thread in the base I think it would be usable as an alternative. I have the original and a spare for my car but knowing this subject comes up often I thought I’d find a cheap alternative.

Better buy one with M5 and cut a new M4 fine thread (you'll need a lathe)

I'm not sure what happened to my post, but most likely I forgot to press send!
Anyway, in essence.
I found a suitable aerial some time as ago but it needs an adapter I thought of doing a group buy and that's where it got stuck. So I've got aerials but not adapters. I've got a lathe but this is way too small.

I will be getting some adapters made m6 > M4x0.5 which should allow the majority of EBay bee sting type masts to be fitted to the Bosch autoflex base.
I am awaiting for the die to arrive to check I have identified the thread correctly and then I’ll order some brass stud.
I’ll make one and check function then decide how many to make it’ll be a group buy list I guess.
I’ll post again when it’s design is sorted.

That's what I do as well.

Sorry, no group buy!
I cut the outer diameter of a wrong adapter (both ends M5) and cut M4 fine then.
Should work!

I'm also in desperate need of a whole unit. Mine was broken whilst the car is being stripped for spraying. The body shop are waiting for me to send one up. Any help/ideas for a straight forward fitting after market? Has anyone used the more modern ones without a mast that I could maybe locate inside the car?

I haven’t actually tried one of these on an Elan. It will need a suitable washer on the underside obviously due to hole size and it will sit not vertical but at an angle. The spacer might need some fettling. If you can bear the look of not upright it might just be a cheap ok ish visually fix.
Does you car still have hole where the original one was ?

I see no reason why a screen type aerial would not work ( provided its active powered ) I think I would put it in the underside of the rear deck area in the boot or even on the boot lid - it’s all glass fibre the further from metal the better.
It might of course be useless, please don’t blame me just trying to be helpful
