Refereing to your previous post "Untaxed" is what shows when you register a car that isn't on the DVLA database. It shows on the taxation class on the V5.

Its not clear from your earlier post if you are refereing to the the V5 taxation class?

What I was meaning was that there must be some confusion about the VIN number at DVLA as there appears to be two VIN's attributed to that car but obviously only one registration number. The car was originally taxed using the engine sticker VIN (call it VIN1) and issued with the G931LVG registration number. That would become the default position at DVLA. However, the re-issued logbook, which the previous owner only obtained shortly before I acquired the car last year, uses the chassis VIN so when I declared a SORN on the car using the VIN on the V5 (VIN2) the system initially accepted the application. That must mean that the car is on their database as I have a confirmation email. However, somewhere along the line DVLA subsequently didn't recognise that declaration and that's why I got the "Tax it or SORN it" warning letter from DVLA. Having spoken to the DVLA they initially couldn't work it out either, put me on hold, and then came back to me and told me not to worry about it. I've heard nothing since.

Hi John,

If you have a V5 it is on their database.
You should be able to SORN it with the document reference number.
What is thout e taxation class shown on the V5?

I thought it might be a good idea to try and get PP9 running for Castle Combe so I started the recommissioning work over the weekend. I started by taking the spark plugs out and spraying the combustion chamber then leaving them overnight to soak. The following day I turned the engine by hand and it moved very freely indeed. The nut holding the flywheel came off faster than Hamilton's fastest pitstop so with that off I then stripped the cam covers off to replace the cambelt.

I have also replaced the jockey wheel but not the tensioner as it appears to be a different one from the Rock Auto supplied one. Interestingly, there were no locating holes to enable me to use the long bolts from the cam cover to lock the two top pulleys?

That must have been a Lotus improvement (adding lightness you could say!). I replaced the water pump but there was a small amount of water in the engine, approx 1/2 pint, and you can see the colour of the pump when I took the old one off - black but it still turned freely.

I have bought some radiator flush in any event and I will run that through the system when I start the car.

The oil will be drained and replaced in the engine and gearbox and I will replace the power steering fluid too. I am also going to drain the fuel tank and fill it with fresh fuel. The brakes appear to be working but until it is running I cannot check the servo. I've had some tyres put on the original DyMag magnesium wheels so I'll stick those on for originality.

As can be seen from the photos, the nuts and bolts are as new and given that the wheels have not been off for 31 years I'm glad that the car doesn't suffer from rust, but dust!

Hopefully, there will not be a bellow of smoke from behind the dash when I finally put the battery on tomorrow and crank it over.

I put the tape on the headlights so the covers didn't fly up (Opera Glass) but my tape replaced the 30-year-old tape that was doing the same job.The checkered strips are Lotus applied and not by me. Not sure about the dry stored or not but the engine oil looks like it was put in a week ago!

update just spotted the link to your pics - tape is not an option - anyone know how to keep the pod lids down in the wind on early opera lights?
