Realised That I Need to do Something

Postby Simon_P » Sun 09.05.2021, 07:51

I have woken up this morning and realised two things. 1. It is finally going to be a warm day. 2. I can't put off selling my Pacific Blue S2 any longer. Or for that matter the Empire Green S2 and a rather nice BRG 60s elan. 3. I have too many cars. Now I've got writing it is rather more than 2 things!

I've been putting this off for a while as I've put rather a lot of effort into each of them and I don't really want to sell them, but recently my parents put their house on the market... and last week they acceted an offer which is great and they have been threatening to move for a while... Except that it was suggested that I might like to find somewhere for my stuff which includes two cars and a boat.
So "the Fleet" as my father refers to it needs to be reduced to a flotilla. Oh hell! Time to do something about it!
I'd rather sell them to enthusiasts so will list them here.

You live in the countryside, Simon.

Find a barn.

A friend of mine stores his 19’ yacht in a local farmer’s dry barn all winter, for about £7 a week. At least until you build a bigger garage

Barns, renting a garage, Carcoons, car tents from Machine Mart etc... Even leaving them outside under decent car covers over the summer. All probably doable short term ??

I guarantee if you sell you will say "wish I'd listened to those wise, old farrs"

After a three cup of tea morning I got up and drank the proverbial coffee - I never understood why the Americans only smell the coffee, perhaps that says something about American coffee? Not that we in the UK can comment. When it comes to coffee Lazy Sundays is my preference.

After some light pottering and surveying the scene I moved some gearboxes and blocks to the shed where they are out of sight and consequently out of mind - Job done -time for more coffee. One of the blocks has been in the way since I moved here 4 years ago so that is real progress. Opposite it still on it's pallet is a Myford lathe which also hasn't moved in 4 years - Anyone in the market for a lathe?

The gearbox and block moving means that I can get my neglected Green S2 out of its tent and un-SORN it, it needs a new radiator as the one destined for it went in the blue car. Just an engine hoist, compressor and anvil to move and I'll be able to get in and start it. That should occupy the rest of the morning!

Having not been able to park their own car in their garage for 20 years, I can see their point - Also changed parents may be less understanding.

I have for years kept various cars and boats in various family member's barns and garages. Strangely when I bought a house they all asked me when I was going to collect them.

Fortunately that isn't the problem . I bought an old house which needs doing up and between house projects, garden projects and car projects I can't keep up. The plan with the 60's elan was to sell it before I moved here, but it didn't get finished so it moved. I'm not sure what the plan was with the two M100 S2's but I've enjoyed doing them up.

To put it into context - Even after the cull I'll still have my green S2 and a project SE and a workshop and attic full of parts as well as a shed full of gearboxes and blocks - and that's just the M100 stuff
