Hi LEC My name is David and I live in a village next to the centre of the universe {Glastonbury Somerset}. I have bought an Elan SE that had a head gasket problem .The owner then parked it up for 10 years Just got the engine in bits ,oil like tar can save the bores and pistons ,head needs a rebuild valves rusted and bent .Just spent a fortune with SJ ,other than that I'm happy.Hope to meet some of you at CC next week.

Hi David, welcome to LEC.

It sounds like you've rescued another one from the graveyard - which is always a good thing.

I'll be at CC next weekend, with plenty of others from here - come and see us on the grass bit next to the paddock (there will be a gazebo with tea and coffee, and a fair few M100s).

I hope your bill from SJs wasn't too bad... but bear in mind that many of the parts you will need are available a bit cheaper from Rock Auto in the USA as the engine is (very nearly) identical to that used in the 1991 Isuzu Impulse Turbo... with a few notable differences, and bits which we think are better sourced from Lotus (or a UK Lotus specialist).
Dave

Just the one now, but this one's mine! - and it will be finished eventually..... - but also temporary custodian of a project until it is finished enough for Angie to drive it

...oh, and a 2006 Freelander destined for the jungles of The Gambia - 4500 miles across roads, desert and tracks - what could possibly go wrong?

Cambelt, water pump, tensioner, idler, all associated belts etc are about one third the price of SJS including customs charges/import taxes etc..

Welcome to LEC anyway and we look forward to seeing your rebuilt engine at CC
