Hi all,

So yesterday had interesting afternoon in the old S2

Called at the petrol station and car would not start!
Pushed off forecourt and tried bump start, would not start, tried jump leads,
None starter. Thought it was immobiliser issue so disconnected battery and reattached
Still nothing.
Turned out it was the battery in the key fob.
So set off for work happily driving away.
Stopped at traffic lights and had a spirited pull away “was in the mood”
Going through the gears increasing speed, all okay until suddenly lost power,
Had to pull in lay-by, car tried to start but would not quite fire up.
Just about to call AA after 3 mins and car started.
Nursed to work and home again roughly 15 miles, no issues but was driving careful.

Not sure what caused the sudden loss of power. Never a dull moment.

You don't say whether the Check Engine Light (CEL) appeared or not ... or how far into your journey the petrol station was - for a clue to engine temperature.

A stuck wastegate will cause overboost with spirited driving but should trigger a CEL and go into Limp Home Mode for a few seconds (that seems like forever) and then recover .. hence the suggestion to check the wastegate..
by far the easiest is with a tyre or bike pump and ball inflator in the hose to the wastegate capsule.. pump it up and you should see the rod move, about 10 psi is all that should be required.

If it fires up cold but doesn't when hot it's probably the coolant temperature sensor (CTS) sending false messages to the ECU for fuelling...

Yeah sorry minimal information.

The engine check light did not come on! On the dashboard, not to my knowledge anyways.

The car temperature gauge seemed fine although it was a warmish day. From the debacle at the petrol station it was around
13 miles continuous driving before I encountered the issue. I don’t believe the engine just cut out it was a sudden loss of power akin to
A limp mode, when I pulled into the lay-by and stopped I can’t remember if the engine cut or I stopped the engine.

But it would not start up again even though it would try.
